    maybe

I took Bmac1's comment to be a general statement about all sr's still playing HS ball are probably still playing because they are headed to college softball scholarships, not just the ones to be selected to the all-star team. sorry if I misinterpreted that message.

    umm

Duke, so you think there would be consideration given to girls not intending to play college ball? You must be talking about the few that are outstanding players that just choose not to pursue college ball for personal reasons?

here's an idea. take the 4 head coaches from the top finishing teams in 4-a,3-a,2-a, and 1-a from the east and the west and let them coach the two teams. let them take one young lady off of each of their teams and let an impartial committee of some of our state leaders in fastpitch (Rodney, CFBall,BMac, Mchone) decide the other 16 players(yes, carry twenty girls on each side let everyone play an inning or two and get the max exposure for the max # of girls). while there are alot of high school coaches that know little to nothing about the majority of these young ladies the head travel ball guys overseen by POP of course do. just a thought. should be an honor for coaches and ladies. :congrats:

DO you really believe that statement? Just because they are the HEAD travel ball guys does not mean that they have seen all the girls play.

not necessarily all, that is why the committee should be fairly good sized and include reps from the eastern part of the state. i think its pretty well known that the vast majority of good high school players are also the good travel ball players and reps from the blues, curve, cards, challengers(c.c. and the eastern organazation), dominators, wildcats, and others know or at least know of the majority of the top players in the state. they would at least have a better idea than a coach from a 1-A school out in the middle of no where. while they would be at least somewhat partial to the girls in their respective programs the process would not be as political as it would be when you involve high school coaches. i also believe that the committee should not have coaches who coach travel and high school. i'm not so naive that someone somewhere down the line will use this to their advantage (i.e. I will nominate you for the allstar team if you will come try out for my travel team), but if you keep the committee at a high number of coaches then you can at least keep it at a minimum. i have not coached travel in several years and at a much younger age, but i still know as a parent more of the top players around the state than our high school coach. just watching ball games at various showcases and tourneys around i have seen ashton ward to kelly grieve to faith sutton to brittany mckinney to the torbert sisters and on and on while our high school coach only knows the ladies in our conference and other local schools. this is not an indictment of his ability or his desire just the simple facts that because he doesn't coach travel ball at a high level that he does not have access to see this level of ball player. i am not out to take pot shots at any high school coach or travel ball coach or any of the young ladies or parents who dedicate their lives to this game, i was just throwing out an idea that just like most of my ideas needs to be tweaked and changed (most of the time by my wife and dds, and of course THE GURU:lalala: LOL) and try to help do whats best for all involved with softball

    Just to clarify!

The State Games of North Carolina and the NCFSCA are going to put on a High School East/West All-Star game and eight team High School District tournament. Seems like some of the posts are going down a different road. But we are still listening so keep those ideas rolling in. Thanks again for the interest.

I guess this game will be good for girls softball. I just see that during the process of choosing the teams there will be girls left out who are better than some but since they do not play on a high quality travel ball team they will be left off the team. This happens with all all-star teams in all sports.

    Great idea

Mr Rivers great idea and many thanks for supporting the girls.
    A question:
With so much talent in the State how would a team be picked that can reflect so many excellent players in the state? Many excellent players come from schools with very little talent. Seems like a great idea but just like "All Conference", "All State", All newspaper titles many girls with as much or more talent never get recognized due to lack of exposure?

Thanks for the effort Mr Rivers. I support all efforts to give these ladies oppurtunity to shine! They all deserve more than the system currently gives them.
