Can someone explain the whole 4A, 4AA, 3A, 3AA system???

    I don't understand the A and AA thing. When I was in HS back in the early 90s, we had 4 classes- 4a, 3a, 2, and 1a.

    They split the classes for mo' $$$$. Why else would you have 8 state champions? There really are only 4 classes until playoff time. Then they take the top 64 teams in each class, divide them into A(the smaller 32) and AA (the larger 32).

    So the 2AA champ won't play the 2A champ?

    Man, that's bullshit.

    At the time of the split, the "stated" reason was to reduce the weeks to finish the playoffs and give more time to spring sports. It did. It cut one week out of the playoffs and basketball now ends one week earlier than formerly.

    oh no

    it has caused very weak undeserving teams to experience the thrill of the "playoffs"; travelling very long distances in the 1st rd. to get their butts whipped.
