As they say, some things go without saying, Braves!!

Meanwhile, you're absolutely right about Drew...as well as a number of of his classmates. Theirs is a VERY talented class...and casual observers are going to be amazed at the contributions a number of them make.

I agree...Baseball America ranked them as the 8th best recruiting class for 06 graduates. I think they should have been higher than that based on what I know about the other schools - at least in the top five.

Its nice to see all the guys are doing ok.............parents I hope you are ok also. CJ (BEATTY) got a full ride to play baseball at NCA&T, a spot in the line-up batting second, and playing OF/IF. He is making adjustments as we speak, classes, study halls, practice, etc. He had a real good fall. They will open up with NC State............ he talks about the good old days all the time. Thanks for this thread, it will help us keep up with the kids and their achievements. I Hope this Next Level thread continues.

    Thanks
    beatty's

A "full ride!" How tremendous...and how incredibly rare in college baseball!

    Congratulations!

The vast majority who read this thread, though, need to understand that a fully-funded Division I program may split only 11.7 athletic scholarships within a roster that usually averages between 30 and 35 players...and quite a few programs lack the funding to provide the 11.7 allowed. As a result, families of baseball players SHOULD NOT expect a large percentage of the player's costs to come from an athletic scholarship.

Several years ago, one of the College World Series' broadcasters claimed that only 2 of the 200 players there were on full athletic scolarships; and that's probably not a bad representation of the percentage in the broader Division I population.

More often than not, a "full ride" to a college baseball player consists of a combination of athletic and academic grants-in-aid; supplemented with student loans. However, it becomes tricky, as the NCAA severely limits the school's ability to provide academic monies on top of athletic funds...a topic discussed elsewhere on this website and the High School Baseball Web.

Junior is playing well at BOTH 3B and Shortstop. Looks like he'll start out as the back up at both for Wake Forest. Wake has a good-looking, young team. They should hit & defend well, but pitching will be the key to their season.
