i would hope the TB teams would work around this time.......not to mention the regional tournament with all those underclasswomen participating would draw alot of colleges.

this is an exciting time for NC Softball. just my 2cents too!

    All Star Games

Coach Lambros and I feel very honored to coach the West Seniors. Football and basketball have long been the two major HS sporting events showcasing the State's very best. With this being the 1st ever Softball-State HS games, along with it comes the honor of being on the first team members selected. I hope each school/community/news outlets will promote these games with the publicity the football and basketball players receive with the participation in the East/West All Star games. As a travel ball fan, I recognized the conflict that may occur between the All State Games and a possible tournament. I truly believe these games are just another way to promote "OUR" players to colleges around the SE. I can tell you from my standpoint as the West Coach, 3 ACC head coaches have already asked me the time and the date for these games. The major colleges in the SE will have representatives at the games. Most Universities, large and small, want to recruit local talent and what better way than the North Carolina State Games.
As far as a Senior games goes, the tentative plan is to play two games on Thursday Night and one on Friday. This should really showcase the State's Best Seniors!

What a fantastic opportunity for the young ladies across the state. The boys side of the State Games is THE premier event in the state for baseball. It is attended by every SE college recruiter and/or HC and most of the MLB cross checkers. It is a lifetime experience and one that I would like to congratulate to all of those selected.

It is an honored tradition that all of the showcase teams and American Legion players selected are allowed to attend.

Wouldn't most if not all of the seniors that will be playing already be committed and/or signed? Will the college coaches have to use a "recruiting day" to attend?

I can see where the underclassmen can really benefit from the colleges being there, but not so much for the seniors. Also, how are underclassmen be allowed to play in an allstar game?

Also, who is the head coach?

Just to back up Braves point here is a list of the scouts/recruiters that attended the boys State Games. If supported by the entire softball community there is no reason the Girls tournament would not generate the same interest. What a great opportunity for these girls.

Not trying to stir anything up but...

There is already a showcase scheduled in Burlington that weekend, hosted by Greensboro College, that generated quite a bit of college representation last year.
There are other qualifying tournaments in other parts of the country that weekend as well.
Travel teams usually have to commit to a showcase tournament early. There are quite a few that have already committed to play this showcase, I think over 25 teams presently.
There are several more of us that will be out of state trying to qualify for the ASA Nationals that weekend.
Travel team coaches usually try to keep from starting their season till after the HS playoffs. We don't plan on HS softball carrying on deep into June. This date will put several kids in an uncomfortable position by having to choose between the opportunity to play in an HS All Star game and adhering to the committment they made to play summer travel ball.
While I don't have a problem with the concept, I do have issues with the timing. I know this post will probably draw quite a bit of criticism but the intent is not to make anyone mad. Just to point out that there will be issues associated with it.
I do have a question though. There is an ASA National Qualifier in OKC Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27.
How many HS coaches, with their teams in the playoffs, would be upset if their players attended this tournament with their travel team?
Just a question to ask yourself. I coached HS ball and I think the answer would be most everyone. That is the same predictament that we travel ball coaches are facing here.
It's already almost impossble to field a complete team till the 3rd week in June because of the high schools moving graduations to the 2nd weekend of June and graduating seniors going to the beach. This will add another obstacle to deal with to those of us who work extremely hard to help these kids get seen by college coaches in the summer time.
