"...the Dirtbags could compete successfully in the ACC."

Perhaps with a couple of years of seasoning; but, the top 8 or so ACC teams are comprised completely of Dirtbags-calibre players, many of whom have a year or two (or three) of experience playing at that level. It makes a WORLD of difference.

It's not possible to exaggerate the magnitude of the step that a player takes when he leaves the high school field and sets foot on a major college program's diamond. Of course, that would be magnified if the player were to go from high school to the minor leagues. Either step takes them from the world of boys to that of men.

Thanks!! IMHO both of these programs do good things for their kids.... The thing that most have to realize is that they don't have to go with a particular organizatin as the sole way to be seen, if they go with one that has knowlegable people running it, and get into the right tournaments, then they will be seen if they are good enough, period.

Obviously I can only speak for those organizations with which I have personal knowlege, no disrespect intended to the O's, Megastars, Cubs, etc... I only try to talk about things I know about.

I notice they have showcase tournaments mostly at college stadiums. I'm sure that is part of the appeal to the kids .....to play in first-rate college facilities.
Do the college coaches ask for showcases at their parks as a recruiting benefit or do the tournament organizers ask around until they get venues that will host at none or little cost. I know that a cost is incurred even if for field prep and maintenance, so someone has to pay.

I am looking forward to the inteview with Andy Partain. Perhaps he can answer the question about the places they play. I am guessing that ticket sales go toward the expense of renting the fields as well as tournament charges for each team.

Good question and one that I don't know, but I will ask. I can say in years past that Andy did not charge ticket sales, but maybe they are now...I just don't know.

Also, the colleges did not charge for the field rental because they enjoyed the fact of having many of the premier players across the Carolinas and VA on their campus as an informal recruiting visit.

    Hitstreak,

My guess - that pro scout is either unemployed - or he hit his head against a really hard object.

Just a silly statement from someone who is supposed to be a professional IMO.

    Stay Real

    Good post itsinthegame.

I like when the board's members try to Police themselves but I'm a little gun shy lately. Braves gets mad at me when I "calls them as I sees them." I am a little too harsh sometimes. One of the real benefits of the board seems to be the expertise that's here. Obviously whoever suggested that high school boys (Impact Dirtbags) could compete in the ACC lacked expertise.

I'm really looking forward to Coach27's Diary though!
