I saw the sign in front of a building on Westinghouse Blvd. in Charlotte, about 2 blocks east of I-77. Short term memory ain't what it used to be but I believe the sign read "Carolinas Baseball Center and athletic development, opening soon". Anyone know anything about this or who is involved?

I really don't know, but the location appears to be near the Steele Creek area, so my bet is that John Thurston may be connected to this. I'll ask around.

My friend has spoken to the guy that is putting this together. From what he has told me this guy is really putting some money and equipment into this facility. He said he saw pitching mounds, a full infield with nice turf (not carpet) and several cages. He said he hopes have showcase, HS, and rec. teams as customers. We live in the Steele Creek area and my son plays at Olympic, it is nice to now have 3 indoor facilities to us (HQ, OnDeck). I am curious to see what it looks like when he opens.

Sorry guys I do not know whom "the guy" is but I will try to find out this weekend. I still sounds very positive. My friend said the contractors he sells to says they are looking to a March date to open. I will try to find out the details and respond.

The guy who is running it played for the Mariners but I can't think of his name right now. From what I've heard, the facility is very big with an indoor infield. I think he is hoping to put some travel teams together also.

Jeff Schaefer is opening this facility. He spent big league time with the Mariners, Athletics, and Indians.
