I hate to be the one to ruin a good story, but Jake got his first varsity ABs last year in Kinston, unless those were mulligans. Daniel Baker did get his first varsity at bat in this game. He reached base on a rare catcher's interference call after nearly getting beaned in the head, prompting a teamate to remark, "typical Bake. The headlines could have read Bake Beaned, but he finds an even stranger way to reach base in his first ab".
Watauga broke open this one with a 7 run second inning. Every starter had at least one hit on the night in the balanced attack. In addition to driving 3 ballls to the RF fence, Hardee had a nice defensive game at short.
Equally encouraging was the pitching of Tyler Moore who gave up hits to the first two batters (Attaways) but stranded them and allowed only two more hits for the rest of the game. Moore also ptiched a complete game gem in his first start against West Wilkes for a 4-1 win.

    Hibriten 7 Fred T Foard 6

Another bad loss for the Tigers. Hibriten broke open a close game in the fourth with 3 straight bases loaded bunts that Foard failed to make plays on. The Tigers, playing with a thin roster, rallied furiously in the 7th by scoring 4 runs in that inning. Andrew Wyant took the loss.

Trent Rothlin and Tyler Wharton each had two hits while Chad Rothlin clubbed a homer for Foard. Next up for the Tigers (3-3, 1-2) will be at home on Friday against Newton.

    Person 13, Webb 12

Person defeated JF Webb 13-12 in a game that had to be interesting for the fans but tough on my grey beard. I dont have my book handy, but Webb rallied from a 10-3 deficit to go ahead 12-11 in the top of the 7th. We committed too many errors to allow unearned runs. Person scored 2 in the bottom ot the 7th to win the game. The winning run scored on a passed ball, after consecutive doubles had plated the tying run.

    Records:
    Webb 3-3
    Person 2-2

Person travells to Orange today at 5:00

Hard to believe that John Ramsey from TCR still hasn't committed....last night he was 5-5, HR (3), 3 RBI and that wasn't even his best game! If you count the two pre-season scrimmages against McDowell and East Rutherford he has 7 HRS in 9 games. This kid is multi-talented and can play any position on the field. He's an athletic 6'2" / 200 lb pitcher/catcher. And on top of that he's a 4.0 student. This is one the D1 schools are missing big time.
