i have got to throw my nickel in
any girl that wants to play should, and any girl that pays to play should. if your tb team is playing in a showcase (and not all teams play only showcases), what do you do/ sit at home that weekend?
here in the mountains, opportunities for travel ball are somewhat limited, so the teams are a mixture of girls that are finishing up their careers with those who want to play college ball. i know for a fact there were showcases we couldnt field a team for if we only played girls that wanted to continue their careers. and that is this weeks decision. next week they may all want to play college ball. now showcase the girls for the coaches that are looking but to say no to a girl who just wants to play?
    not on my team
and as far as underclassmen playing playing over upperclassmen? maybe if a trip to raleigh is at stake, otherwise i feel that seniority has its place. these girls have been playing for 10 years, and its their last hurrah, my god they have paid their dues, let the younger girls wait their turn
and with that said i will sleep well tonite and every night with a majority of the decisions i have made regarding softball, i hope

    Nice Post

I agree with you, those players who wants to play should play!
And yes there are loads of areas, like the one you just described, that field a team of anyone who wishes to play the game and deal with the expenses of TB! I was for sure not trying to hurt any feelings, about anyone who plays the game! Please do not take my posts that way! But as you can imagine, here in the Charlotte area, there are loads of kids wanting to play. So a lot of team are around at every age group, with the exception of 18U, they are a little less teams to choose from in that age group! This is the main reason I posted this thread. So that everyone has the ability to post thier veiw point on this matter. And every angle is examined! Hey there are teams in the Charlotte area with fantastic TB players "riding the pine" due to the over abundance of players in the area. For example, there are some schools that might have 5 solid pitchers and some schools don't even have a "pitcher per say", same with 1st base, 2nd base, SS and so on! Everyone can't play every inning of every game on every team! Someone is going to get the "short end of the bat", or that is the end of the bat, they want, isn't it? Anyway I'm with you I will sleep good at night knowing that the decisions I have made in life, were the best decisions I could make!

    The best should play

I think the best players should play regardless. There are girls out there who could play at the next level, but for whatever reason are chosing not too or put it off. Should they be penalized if they decide that, unless they get significant scholarship to a school they want to attend (that may best fit their degree plan) they may have to take an alternative route? I know of one that is in that boat. She's got offers, significant ones money wise, but, unless it increases, it's more practical for her to go to a school that doesn't have a softball program for a few semesters.

In addition for girls similar to that, many in the first year when spring hits and softball gets under way, they usually have a fit to get back in the game. If they've got the talent and ability, I say go for it.

Bottom line, you never know what's going to happen with any of the girls who have the talent and ability to play at the next level. . . all the more reason to let the best play, definitely at the HS level, and probably at the TB level. It may be the last tourney they get the exposure they need to get the deal they won't. I also have no problem with TB teams setting their own rules about how determined their prospective team members are to play at the next level.

Too many factors to have a cut and dry answer.
