Huge fan of all of these. If I have to pick from this list it would be For Love of the game.

Comment on Summer Catch...That is baseball blasphemy. Leave a NO-NO in the 9th inning to go after a girl? I don't care if it is the superhot Jessica Beil!

Also a couple more suggestions. *61 and 8 men out. Two absolute greats based on true stories from America's pasttime.

As soon as I read it I knew I had got the names mixed up. As far as the memories...you are right. We would get together and play ball every day. We had like 6 guys on each team. Pitcher, first base, third base, between short and second, and 2 OF's. We had a tree for second base and we stunted that suckers growth. It stood about 3 feet tall, but it had been there forever. If you hit my granddads house it was an automatic out, so you learned to pull the ball the other way. If we were playing across the street and it went in the pool, ground rule double. But on those most special of occasions my mom would load us up and take us to the local elementary schools with real bases. You talk about heaven. The neighborhood had 2 teams and we would just play ball. Dang those were some good times.

Did any of you ever play baseball with a tennis ball when you had real cramped quarters between houses? We did that too.

Awww Smashmouth...you are bringing back a lot of memories. I wonder how many kids know about having each player on opposite teams take turns choking up on a bat to decide who bats first. (I always cheated at that).

and speaking of "tennis" baseball; imagine this. 6 HS players, all D1 signees (1 went on to win a Cy Young award) competing everyday during the summer mornings playing tennis baseball. There were more arguments and a few fights in deciding fair balls, outs and interference....ah!!! those were the days. The funny part was, you would compete against those guys in a real game that night and there seemed to always be a holdover of resentment from the morning game...a lot of players were having to bail out of the batters box or watch out for hard slides into 2nd, 3rd and home.

I must admit that I am glad they didn't have travel or showcase ball back then. We had more fun!!!!

Side note on Summer Catch. Gary Robinson was offered the job as technical adviser or trainer or whatever you would call the guy who was supposed to make the actors look like baseball players in the movie. This was the same time he was just getting his Express program started and he felt he couldn't be gone 3-4 months beginning in April to do movie work.
