I thought HS sports could not be televised live. I know that Independence football has been hurt financially based on this ruling. So, how come they are allowed to televise live the State Championship basketball tournament?

I do not have an answer to your question, but they also carried the state championship football games.

Yeah, but if I'm not mistaken the monies are given to the NCHSAA. That's a bit hypocritical isn't it? Especially since their position in preventing television was not for monetary reasons.

Personally, it should be based on supply and demand. Stations aren't going to broadcast a game unless it makes financial sense.

If a station wants to broadcast a game...say Rose vs Conley, what's the problem with that? They can make arrangements so the NCHSAA can still get a piece of that pie.

I know the state wrestling tournament is televised on PBS, the NCHSAA sells the tapes after the tournament.

    :laugh4: ...sorry, I couldn't help myself.

So, is it wrong for me to conclude that as long as the NCHSAA has a piece of the action then it's ok. But that is not what they stated for their reasons to not allow live broadcasts. Their position is they don't want a particular team or player to be given "special" exposure. That somehow it would hurt the team and players.

I'm going to try to find that link that explains their position

I would call Que Tucker, Charlie Adams, or Rick Strunk. HEre's the phone number to the NCHSAA (919) 962-2345... maybe someone there could explain it to us better. If you go to the NCHSAA.org you could email them and possibly get a response also. WOrth a try...

    Thanks Coach...I will.

I'll tell you why this is a sore spot for me. With HS baseball considered a non-revenue sport, an extra 5-10,000 to add to the baseball coffers to each team would certainly help their booster clubs...and that is a low ball number
