I find this board to be very informative. Unlike many other message boards, the responses are generally well thought out and not too emotional. So, I would like to get folks feedback.

In the Upstate of SC, we have a trend toward HS coaches running travel ball programs. SCHSL rules limit their direct involvement to June 1 - July 31. However, they can have other people run the program outside these dates. The HS coach cannot "require" the kids to play in the travel program. However, "they don't have to play at the HS either".

Obviously, a travel ball program that only has kids from one HS will not be a strong as the top travel programs. The dilemma that the parents face is that you feel that you must participate in the HS travel ball program if you want your daugther to play in HS. Yet, this may not be the best choice for the player's development.

I'm curious if anyone has dealt with this type of setup and dilemma in the past. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

    take a good look around

sorry mr. and mrs. j q public, but highschool coaches in general don't have a clue. thanks to all the FREE help that the travel ball coaches give our girls. without them, girls fastpitch softball would be dropped by AD's and replaced by female lacrosse. give credit my friend where credit is due. play safe

I have been trying to get coaches at Newton-Conover to come out to watch a few travel tournaments and have even offered to pay for their ticket into the events. If it were not for travel ball Catawba county would be the joke of the state.(In my opinion). The good news is, they know the importance of travel ball to their system and when my daughter needs to go to practice she is excused early to go.

    Great post!!!!!!!

Glad to see that people throughout the state recognize that HS ball has the problems it does. Most HS coaches not only do not know the game they do not know anything about fundamentals, player development, conditioning or winning for that matter!

You're exactlly right most high school coaches are terrible. What really hurts is when the highschool coach who knows absoloutly nothing about the game coaches a travelball team and expects most of their players to play there. The kids never get a chance to learn the game and the program goes down the drain.

Maybe some of the College players will come back and replace some of the good ole Boys with someone that has actually played the game at the next level and know that you can develop skills ,may not win all the time but will see a team get better as the year progresses and make a run in the playoffs.
