Ok guys, how do you count it in the scorebook...

Runner on first and second, 2 outs, batter hits a sharp groundball into the hole between 1st and 2nd clearly headed for right field for a hit, as neither 1st baseman nor 2nd baseman is anywhere close,,,,, BUT the ball strikes the runners leg who's leaving 1st. Obviously, out 3, inning over.

But how do you score it in the book?

I figure someone on TBR will know this. Thanks.

    Ruling

Luckily the batter gets credit for a base hit no matter how soft or hard it was hit. the fact that it hit a baserunner makes it a hit for the batter. Unreal but true.

I was thinking basehit for the batter, but how do you record the out?

    Runner's interference?

Yes, the batter gets the run. If the pinch runner happens to steal a base, however, the pinch runner gets the stolen base.

Pinch runner gets credit for run. Has it been a pitcher or catcher who had the hit with a courtesy runner then the batter would have gotten credit.

I believe the fielder closest to the runner hit by the ball is credited with the putout.
