I just saw where a usssa baseball tournament in charlotte/gastonia this weekend has 271 teams scheduled for play. This is just ages 8-14, of course some teams are from out of state but still that is a lot of kids playing travelball from NC. If this keep up maybe NC will be mentioned in the same brethe as FL,TX, and CA, when it comes to baseball. UNC and CLEMSON seem to have discovered Western NC.

Many are from out of state however in the other post about Legion ball we talk about the explosive growth of travel ball. My youngest son is in the 12U group and of the 30 Major teams, half are from out of state.

True half of teams may be from out of state but the key here is they are coming to our state for a super NIT. There will also be several world series in NC this year and if im not mistaken isnt Shelby hosting the legion world series in the near future. Like you said in your legion post anyone with money can start up a team but the kids do benefit. With caldwell co. hurting so much economically they should try hosting some tourneys because charlotte will rack up big time this weekend.

Charlotte also has the Julian Brown soccer tourney this weekend. Very tough to get a reasonable hotel rate in Charlotte this weekend.

For caldwell county, it's not sop easy to just host a tourney. USSSA, Triple Crown and AAU sell area franchises. The owners have the large tourneys in bigger cities. There is a bunch of money in this for the franchise owners. I'm talking well in to 6 figures for 2 situations I have looked at.

That's not unusual. Both my boys did the same. That's where a lot of youth baseball is heading. In fact, I think it's already there.
