Rocky Mount's JV's moved to 5-0 in conferecne play with a 7-1 over Northern Nash, who was also undefeated in conference play going into the game. Sophomore Nick Hahula got the win on the mound. Freshman outfielder Carter Varnell hit a 3-run homerun. RM's JV's are now 12-3 overall. I'd say this is very good for a JV team that has 4 stud sophomores playing on the varsity team.

West beat ND 8-7 in 11 innings. Zane Yates had a double to drive in Dustin Myers, (who led off with a single). Both teams looked sharp. Coyle picked up the win throwing 15 pitches today! He is now 7-0 on the mound.

West and Tabor go at it again at the Vatican on Friday. Should be a great one to watch.
    Varsity will follow.

ND is playing East Rowan on Friday. Key conference matchup!

Charlotte Christian defeated Gastonia Ashbrook yesterday 13-6 in six innings. The game was called with two outs in the top of the seventh with Christian batting and a runner on third because of lightning and rain. Christian led the whole game and hit the ball well all day. The Knights were led in hitting by Jake Watson 4-5, Sam Fulginiti 2-4, John Kincaid 2-3 and Pookie Caldwell 2-4. Watson got the win on the mound going six innings and giving up one earned run. Both teams struggled on defense. The win moves Christian to 10-4 on the season.

    East Meck- 1

    WP- Andy Clifford

The game lasted 6 innings, as Andy Clifford went 5, only giving up one hit and no earned runs while striking out 8. Teddy Ritger came in the 6th and had an easy 1-2-3 inning. Jake Hall and Corey Smith both hit their first homeruns of the year in this game. Providence is now 11-5 on the year and has a big game tomorrow at Watauga.

Ragsdale still undefeated. 16-0 I think. These kids are the Cardiac Cats. Losing 1-0 into the 7th. Took a 2-1 lead then won it 3-2 in the 8th.

Tyler Woods pitched a complete game shutout, while allowing only 3 hits. Woods had the Butler hitters guessing all night long.

    South's JV record is 10-4-1

    Providence- 6
    Watauga- 2

    WP- Jordan Fuller

Fuller pitched the whole game allowing only two hits (an infield single and a homerun by Phillips). Watauga led 2-1 the whole game until Providence rallied with a 5 run 7th inning thanks to clutch hits. Providence won all 4 of their games this week and is now 12-5 on the season. Next up, at Ardrey Kell on tuesday.

I'll commend Providence on their effort coming back against a strong Watauga team, but most of that five run seventh was due more to errors and defensive mistakes rather than clutch hitting. At least two batters reached on errors and two more reached base because Watauga didn't execute on bunts that should have been sacrifices but ended up as hits. Again, I applaud Providence's effort and unwillingness to quit, but the rally was due as much to the defensive mistakes and mental lapses that have plagued Watauga all season as it was due to a couple clutch hits.
