Im aware of some 09's and 10's that are having outstanding seasons for their varsity squads. Guys like 09 CF Brian Goodwin and 09 catcher Ben Fish at Rocky Mount. But I would like to know who some of the guys are in your area that are playing significant roles on your HS teams or are players to watch out for in the future. Im sure I will get to see some of them this summer but I like to keep up on things.

Ardrey Kell has a host of talented 09's and 10's, but the player that has caught my attention all year is a soph for Providence, Richie Shaffer. This kid reminds me of Greg Holt. Great swing, long ball hitter and can bring it as a pitcher. The kid will have his pick of colleges to attend.

Ragsdale is loaded with 09/10 talent.

10 Ben Fultz starts at second and is one of the Tigers leading hitters. Ragsdale has a deep park and not many homers are hit there but Ben has two including one tonight. Tonight he was 3-3 with 3 RBIs. He is one of the fastest players to second base you'll ever see.

A few other 10s include Desean Anderson who starts in right field. He has a great arm, great speed and a dangerous bat. He was a starter at QB on the JV football team and his dad is High Point Andrews head FB coach.

10s Bennett Hixon and Billy Stone have pitched alot of big innings for the varsity.

09s for the Tigers include Nate Cash who has started behind the plate the last two seasons and Ragsdale's #2 pitcher David Coffey who is 6-1 and pitching like a veteran. How good is Cash? He got two hits off Alex White in last year's state title game. And his hitting keeps getting better.

As good as the Ragsdale JV is this year (16-0) these two classes will be putting some great players on the field in a couple years. It will be tough for Coach Maness to find playing time for all these kids

    PAC-6 10's

Two freshmen making an impact at the varsity level in the PAC-6 are LHP/OF DJ Thomas of Riverside and LHP/OF Jack O'Rourke of Northern Durham.

Thomas anchors CF for the Pirates, has good size, runs well and has been on fire at the plate this year swinging from the left side in the lead-off spot. He also flashes an 80 mph fb and an excellent spinner.

O'Rouke anchors CF for the Knights and is exceptional defensively and has absolute plus speed. He shows good bat control in the number two hole with an excellent understanding for the game and has had several effective outings on the bump.

Both of the kids are players to watch in the coming years.

    Bryan Bass - Northern Durham

Bryan is an 09 2B that plays for Northern Durham. He hits from the leftside and can really handle the bat. Also he is outstanding in the field with very good arm strength. Impacts Andy Partin has compared Bryan to Tyler Hanover which is a tremendous compliment. Bryan plays the game full tilt and has a great baseball IQ. This kid can flat out play the game.

Matt Wade '10 - Northwood HS

Matt has battled a sore arm and has gone through a "trial by fire" type season at 3rd base for the Chargers but he has worked hard and has improved greatly from a rough start defensively. As far as offense goes, he has hit like a veteran. He's batting around .400 and leads the team in homeruns and slugging.

Austin Blake is making noise with his bat at the Varsity level for Reagan High School. He has made an impact on the team with speed, flexibility and a strong bat. He has power with his bat as well as a strong ave.

Dustin Myers and Tyler Coyle have been outstanding this year, at any other high school would probably be on the Varsity. Both are great pitchers and they can hit the ball very well.
