Lastest College Signees

Surry community college is not that great. The coaches do not even coach. The person getting this good players in is coach Josh Simmons. Until Simmons arrived this program was headed in the wrong direction. The players recieve no instruction at SCC. The players that are their now are not getting many looks from 4-year schools. The coaches only care about winning not the players.

I know that Coach Simmons is one of the most active coaches out there searching for talent. Everywhere I went last fall he was there scouting.
He seems to be very good scout & recruiter. Good Luck to Coach Simmons and all the Surry CC Knights!

If you can't learn from Coach Tucker, Vernon and Simmons, you have to be deaf, dumb or blind...or dead! I could spend hours discussing baseball with Coach Vernon and learn something new during those hours.

...and as far as the quality of talent. This year's recruits are terrific.

 

Let me set the record straight on Surry. I played there two years with better players than me. During those two years, I was treated better than any other coaches that I have ever had. During my time, we had a kid get hit in the face by a baseball by accident and had to go to the hospital. I know that Coach Tucker got in touch with his parents; went to the hospital; stayed with my teammate well after his parents arrived (around 2 am according to my teammate). This is just one example, I could list hundreds more. As for your other points, I have never been around more knowledgeable coaches at any level. In my opinion, Coach Vernon is one of the best hitting coaches anywere. Both coaches worked with me on individual instruction and the mental part of the game everyday. If they don't provide instuction, it is amazing how many players have been drafted or gone on to four-year colleges that people didn't recruit out of high school. And yes, I received several "looks" and with Coach Tucker's assistance, I played at a four-year school. Coach Vernon knows more baseball than anyone that I have ever met. As for the program heading in the wrong direction until Simmons arrived. Wow! My two years we were a combined 102-23 (One Region X Championship; One Region X Runner-Up; District Runner-up; ranked in the top five juco's; etc.). I guess that we just got lucky 102 times. I am sure that Coach Simmons is doing a great job (I don't know him), but I really take offense to this post having played for these two coaches. Finally, when it came to getting a job out of college, I mentioned to Coach Tucker were I had applied. Without my knowledge (I only learned later from someone else), he contacted the company, and helped me get the job. Yea, really sounds like coaches that don't care.

 

Great reply and rebuttal. I know both coaches and in my opinion they are 1st class. Coach Vernon is one of my all time favorites

SC currently has 5 players going to Surry. Josh Shehan, Josh Severt, Shane Clawson, Bradley Craig and Brett Parham. This team along with all the other signees should be a good team.

 

I agree with Braves. I have spoken with all 3 coaches from Surry. They are all some of the nicest people you will meet. The first time I met them you would have thought we had known each other for years with the way they treated us. I know I am looking forward for my son to play for them.
