Ok this will probably open up a can but jmo I think ND will figure out a way to manufacture a run before cd does. Both teams have great programs but my guess and thats what it is goes to nd.:notworthy

Should be a great duel. I think North will have to use their short game to perfection to get to Chelsea, both pitchers are dynamite! Wish I could be there!

Central Davidson beats North in clash of softball powers

Leonard throws one-hitter, strikes out 18



WELCOME | Central Davidson’s Chelsea Leonard gave up one hit and struck out 18 North Davidson batters, and the Spartans scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning to defeat North Davidson 2-0 Wednesday night.

About 1,200 fans attended the clash between two of the premier teams in the state. The 2-A Spartans improved to 22-1 while the 4-A Black Knights lost their first game to fall to 22-1.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the sixth inning. Ashley Hulin led off for Central Davidson with a single off North pitcher Danielle Glosson, 21-1. She advanced to third when center fielder Tisha Mason made an error on the hit. Leonard then worked the count to 3-2 before getting an infield hit to shortstop, which allowed Hulin to score.

Courtesy runner Leanna Hildebrand stole second and moved to third base on Erin Cole’s groundout. With two outs Gina Antonucci singled to right field to drive in Hildebrand.

Hulin, Leonard and Nicole Perry each had two singles for Central Davidson. Kelly Sale had North’s only hit, a two-out single in the fifth inning.

Leonard improved her record to 17-1. She has only allowed two earned runs all year.

Glosson gave up eight hits, struck out 10 and walked one.

The great swammee sees a Leonard-Sutton matchup in Raleigh !! May have to give them Spartans a slight advantage with the bats!! Good luck CD in playoffs, & state !!!!!!!

great match-up! my prep for this game would include alot of bunting for offense and defending the bunt otherwise. this possible game has the makings of a late night classic. Great pitchers with great players around them. congrats! play safe.
