they have 2 quality pitchers and play as good of defense as anybody in the state. They can pick it up with anybody and their pitchers have only given up a combined 4 runs through the playoffs. They hit good enough to win and hit it at the right times

My 2 cents on North Davidson:

    They are a TEAM.
    Good pitching.
    Good defense.
    Timely hitting.
    Well coached.

I don't know a soul from South Caldwell, but I've seen them play (last year) and I respect their program and the success they've had. I am awed by Bumgarner, not just his talent, but the poise he possesses on the mound.

With that being said, go get 'em North Davidson boys. You've got nothing to lose......go make some lifelong memories!

I'll preface my comments by saying that I am a North Davidson graduate, was an assistant there for 6 years, and am good buddies with current staff so I see through orange and black colored glasses.

With that being said - on paper this series is a laugher in favor of SC. They have superior talent, experience etc. etc. But I also remember Caldwell County being the huge favorite in the 2005 State Legion Tourney and finishing 0-2, so anything can happen. Regardless, South Caldwell is a HUGE HUGE favorite (and rightfully so) in this series. Heck, they're probably the best team in the whole southeast.

But on to ND. They have gotten to this point because of pitching. Two guys have thrown every playoff inning so far. Its interesting because their two starters couldn't be any different. Both juniors, Zach White is a big lefty that throws pretty hard and just has good stuff. He's the strike out guy. Clay Watson is a short right hander that has impeccable control and pitches to contact. He's that fast worker that every fielder likes to play behind. The differences are obvious when you look at the pitch counts from the first 2 playoff games (both shutouts). Zach threw 100 or so pitches and Clay threw 74. Their a nice combo and compliment each other well. Offensively they have two main cogs - Senior first baseman Daniel Kassouf (Belmont Abbey) and Soph shortstop Levi Micheal. Over the long haul these two guys are going to hit, but the level of production from the other seven guys is usually the difference. If guys like CF Jay Yount, 3B Luke Wilhelm and LF Trey Briggs come through, that is when ND scores its runs.

Personally, I am so looking forward to this series. I can't wait to hear what the kids say about the baseball atmosphere in Caldwell County. Some of the guys from the 2005 Legion team know a little bit of what to expect, but the others have no idea. I'm so proud of these guys for raising the bar for North Davidson baseball. ND hasn't been past the second round since 1984 and these guys have the community excited. I'm also elated for the ND coaching staff - Coach Meadows, Coach Simpson and Coach Griffin really work hard and I hope they are having as much fun coaching as I have had watching. Best of luck to both sides. I look forward to seeing all of you SC fanatics on Friday night. A little advice for those planning on making the trip - 1) Come early if you can. There will be a softball game as well (the fields are side-by-side and share a parking lot). 2) Bring a lawn chair. The field sits in a hole and the some of the best vantage points are on the hill down the right field line. Drive safe.

    Go Black Knights!!!!
