I believe you are right about pitchers being able to throw consistently in the 90's, but Madison will still be throwing in the 90's in the 7th inning. He is well rested and ready. I believe he gets stronger as the game gets longer. I love to watch Madison pitch and I believe everyone else will too. Ashley's pitcher Justin Bradley is also a great pitcher and I look forward to watching him too. It will be some great baseball this weekend and best of luck to everyone.

Ok, back to the thread. Let's hear everyones thoughts and predictions. Will Parham go with Bumgarner or Messer in game 1? I say Bumgarner but Messer will get it done too. Will Ashley throw their no.1 against Bumgarner or Messer? Lots of stratgey to win it all.

I say Ashley will throw there #1 pitcher Bradley, but South will be safe with either pitcher. I would say Bumgarner, so it will definitely be Messer. I am always wrong.

Choosing between Madison Bumgarner or Jimmy Messer is a nice problem for any coach and team to have. I'm confident in either guy no matter who the opponent is.

Normally Madison pitches the first game of a series if he is available; however, Madison just pitched Saturday night and Jimmy hasn't pitched since last Thursday night.

I'm hoping South can wrap the series up by winning the first 2 games. Let's say they have to go to a game 3 for argument sake. I'm wondering if the guy who pitched game 2 could possibly start game 3 since he would have only a few hour hangover between games? If this scenario is possible then you go with the guy who can pitch more innings consecutively for the 2nd day.

Not to take anything away from SC's 3rd pitcher, Brown...anybody can have a bad day and I'm sure he will have some great days in the future, including the State Championship. But, Cody Penny sure looked good against North Davidson.

One thing I've learned this year....I trust whatever Coach Parham decides to do.

To tell you the truth, I think for the 1st time all season the SC team will be relaxed. The pressure they have faced all year to return to the State Championship has been enormous. It would have been not surprising for a hot pitcher to shut them down one game and end their season...but it didn't happen. That's why I feel those guys are battle tested. They aren't excited to be in the Championship...they are excited about winning it. Not to take anything away from Ashley. They are obviously a veteran team, but what one does not know is; are they glad just to be there? No one knows the answer until the games are played out, but I can confidently say that SC is not glad to just be there.

Oh...and that Pye kid at Ashley is a monster.

I too would be happy to start with either Messer or Bumgarner against anyone. As for a game three I hope it don't come to that. If it does I'm not sure who we will see. Brown did a real good job for SC this year. He is one of the reasons SC is where they are His last 2 appearances though haven't went to well so I think more than anything his confidence is down and with that it will be hard to put him in a state championship game. If it goes to a game 3 I think you will see Messer, Bumgarner and Penny all three. I would like to see us get a big lead in game 1 like we did last year but get the game one starter out early. Don't want to look to far ahead but Messer and Penny look like a formidable duo for next year.

    Bring It Home South Caldwell

I had the pleasure of coaching the Forest City Thunder team. We played the Caldwell Cobras and South Caldwell Spartans many times over four years. The games were usually as competitive as the South Caldwell vs East Rutherford games have been the past two years at the Easter Tournament.

South Caldwell is truly blessed with a tremendous amount of talent and a coaching staff that is outstanding. I wish the 2A and 4A games were at the same location so we could be there for support.

    Good Luck Spartans !

    SC Pitching

I see someone talking about SC's #3 but it isn't Poovey. What happened to that kid? He signed with Clemson.
