I've always said that KM was a sleeping giant. Could be getting ready to get a wake-up call and give Cleveland County one more good football team.

    From the Shelby Star

KINGS MOUNTAIN — After seasons of growing pressure from fans, Dave Farquharson is no longer the head coach for Kings Mountain High’s football program.
Farquharson has had six seasons as head coach of the Mountaineers and has a record of 29- 48.

Before taking over as head coach in 2000, he served as an assistant football coach and head wrestling coach. He is also a physical education teacher at Kings Mountain.
Ronny Funderburke, recently named to succeed John Yarbro as Kings Mountain principal, said he evaluated the football program and after talking with other school officials, decided to make a change.

“Wins and losses had no effect on this decision,” Funderburke said.
The changes hopefully will rekindle the legacy of Kings Mountain football, he said.
Funderburke said he was concerned that it was late in the hiring season for a new head coach.

“We’re seeking the best coach we can find,” Funderburke said. “If the right candidate can’t be found before then, an interim wouldn’t be out of the question.”

Funderburke said the decision — his first as Kings Mountain’s new principal — was an extremely difficult one.

“I’ve known Dave since the late ’80s,” Funderburke said. “He’s a great person. I respect him. He cares for kids as much as anybody I’ve run into in the education field.”
Farquharson couldn’t be reached for comment.

I would think Mark Latham would have been a good choice also. I guess we'll see how it pans out?

I don't really care about football that much. I know both of them, and I know who I would take as a teammate, or a coach.
