    East Rutherford #11
    South Caldwell #14
    North Lenoir #98

Congrats to these three teams for being ranked in the top 100 in the nation in HS baseball.

ER is a 2-A club. So lets just say they are the #1 team in the nation at the 2-A level. National Champions ER!!

This is awesome for NC HS baseball folks. I can remember when we had no teams ranked ever during the entire HS season. This year we had as many as 6 or 7 teams ranked and one time or another during the season. Outstanding stuff!!!

Sports Illustrated also has South Caldwell at 10 and East Rutherford at 12 for the final rankings of the year

The rankings make me extra proud of North Davidson. They beat both E Rutherford & S Caldwell (& pushed SC in 2 losses).

Understand I'm NOT suggesting that ND should be ranked, but it puts another exclamation point on one of the best teams in ND history.

Extra comment: I umpired in Kentucky for several seasons. No comparison between the talent here & there. North Carolina baseball is special.

UK, I don't have to tell you how well Zach White pitched, and Levi Michael played. The Region 5 coaching staff used all their pitchers sparingly, so both times I watched White pitch, he was only used 1 inning. I saw Zach the summer after his freshman year, and thought then, that he would be one of the top pitchers in his class, and he has done nothing to change my mind. Levi Michael is just a great ballplayer. He was moved to CF in about the 6th, or 7th inning, and ran down a long drive to deep left center hit by Brian Goodwin from Rocky Mount. I'm not sure anyone else at the State Games could have caught it. Brian would have stretched it to a triple for sure, and we possibly could have scored the only run needed to have won. As it was, we lost 1-0 in 10 innings.

As a ND fan, I appreciate the compliments to our kids. But I don't want to hijack this thread.

The story here is North Lenoir, E Rutherford, & S Caldwell. If a national high school tournament was held, I'd like our state's chances. Deep in quality pitching, which at the end of the day is the difference maker.

To understand the great talent that this state has you only have to look as far as the Tar Heels. Most of their starters are from the state of NC. They now have more victories on the season than any other team and are playing for the National Championship series against Oregon State starting Sat night.
