McDowell could be much improved. The young players are hungry to win and the new Coach will bring discipline and a desire to win too. They have pitching with Freeman, Johnson and Hopkins and the J.V. ace from last year Josh Thompson will be varsity next year too. Defense infield will be solid. The only question will be hitting.

baseballmom; I have him listed as a no. 2 pitcher for next year. He can do very well next year. Needs to pick up a couple mph on the fastball which if he works in the off season he probablly will and beef up a little. I think next year SC will have to have a couple of other guys step up on the mound also. With Madison gone I don't see us being able to go with a 2 man rotation like this year

    South will have a threesome

I'm not sure if you guys realize South has two upcoming JV pitchers who are equally strong pitchers. Both only Juniors next year. I know the announcer at a Legion game had them confused.

Cody Penny - speed in mid 80's and a nasty curve - who went with the team to state and is playing Legion B and doing quite well and is also getting stronger with the bat. I know of at least 2 HRs he has hit lately. I wish someone would post some stats on Caldwell's Legion B. I know they have won most of their games.

Cody Poarch - speed in mid 80's with a wicked changeup - is playing Legion A and according to caldwellbaseball.com is 2-1 with the only loss coming from a 1-0 loss to Lake Norman. (Hard to pick up a win with no runs scored.) His experience with older players and game time with Chavis will only make him stronger for Varsity next year. He may also be getting some time at quarterback this year which will keep him in the gym.

If these two beef up a little with workouts and maturity, look for an extremely strong threesome at South!!

I think that this will be the year that gets Watauga back to the program level it is custom too. They have had a huge problem with making contact with the ball the past to year. Most noted by setting a record with strikeouts in a season this year. This group won't have that problem.

There is no way that Watauga can win the conference or even come in second they don't have any pitching at all besides Ethan Moyer and only throws 82. I'm sorry but I don't see that happening.

I think its stupid to be predicting line ups because you dont know what can happen from now until next season...but

I think there are 6 teams in the conference that can contend next season excluding Freedom because they are losing everyone to Patten

AC Reynolds - losing some good players , but solid jv team last year
Alexander - good catcher to lead team , some good jv players coming up
East Burke - Rhoney will be a good pitcher and will carry that team
Freedom - all i know is that they have Washington , and it takes more than one player to win ball games
Mcdowell - very young infield last year which means they still have some last year varsity players and solid left handed pitcher
South Caldwell - Messer will win a lot of games for them and solid jv's coming up
Watauga - lots of jv players coming up and baseball should come back to life in Boone

    POY Canidates -
    Jimmy Messer - SC
    Brad Chavis - SC
    Alexander Wall - AC Reynolds
    Russell Reed - Alexander Central
    Trey Dunnigan - Watauga
    Corey Rhoney - East Burke
    ..probably forgetting some

Don't get me wrong Rhoney is good, but to compare him to Messer and Chavis... Thats not even close. But He is a very good ball player and will carry East Burke, but like you said for Freedom one player can't do it bye his self

You can't count Watauga out.. they might not have the great players but they have one of the best coachs in N.C. they will be strong no matter what!
