This story is a bit different to one posted the day before written by Heater Sanders. I tried to find her's on line, but could not. I did manage to find a print copy of the sports section from the day before and will attempt to quote it mostly ver batum (not good with latin) just not complete. The remainder of the article can be summed up in the other article.

    "Morganton,
The Burke County School Board OK'd 10 of thirteen student requests Monday to transfer from Patton High to Freedom and still be able to play sports. According to Burke Coundy and the NCHSAA policy, students lose their atheletic eligibility for a year if they transfer to a school outside their district.
The board met with parents and students who live in the Patton distict. The students wanted to remain at Freedom, which riquires a transfer, and also remain eligible to play sports at Freedom.
Under NCHSAA rules, a student-athlete who lives in one school district can't play in another school district without sitting out of ahteletics for one year. But decision by local education districts, such as a bonafide transfer, override the NCHSAA rule.
The NCHSAA recognizes a student-athletes' "home-school" as the one they are assigned to attend by local distric. *The move of just 10 athletes should not have a significant impact on Patton's ability to field athletic teams*.
Had a significant number of football players applied and recieved transfers, it could have hampered Patton's ability ot field a varsity football team this season. Rising seniors were already OK'd to remain at Freedom, but all other sutdent athletes who live in the Patton district were expected to attend Patton if they did not apply and receive a transfer.
Burke County School Board chairman Ray Martinat said the board voted on each case separately. None of the votes were unanimous. Many decisions had 4-3 votes, he said...."

    * indicates the biggest contradiction (in my opinion) in the two
