Well, we are just beginning the process, and it may turn out to be nothing. Time will tell. However the best comment I have heard that fits our family plilosophy is this.

A kid should ask himself when picking a school this question. If you were injured today and could never play again would you still want to be at the school you are considering? This fits our approach that education is the priority. May be something different for others.

my response is directed to LOVE THE GAME....

I am saying this with the utmost respect and humility LTG but I disagree with the advice you mention as being so helpful. I know which coach told you that because that's his standard line with all recruits. I agree if I wasn't a baseball player that would be a great school to attend. Frat parties, great football and tailgates, excellent price tag for a solid education, the list goes on and on...

This same coach could start adjusting his recruit spill because he is starting to win and be respected. Anyways, what I am not doing a good job of explaining is that a kid shouldn't ever think about being a regular student. Hopefully he won't be and if he does then I can tell you it will be different than he thinks.

I feel a player should think about what school is going to be his best combo of baseball and academics and student life. Your son is going to spend hour upon hour working at baseball and hoping to be rewarded with playing time. his whole culture and college experience will revolve around baseball. there is just no way to take baseball out of the experience unless he thinks he might quit at some point. which I am sure he isn't thinking about yet.

Baseball will dictate every aspect of his college experience. It's too big a factor to not weigh heavily on the decision. I know you are going through a stressful period LTG but don't make a baseball decision without making baseball the most important part unless you know deep down inside your son won't play four years. which I am sure isn't the case. just my opinion...
