You guys have had a couple weeks to get used to Monte being back...so how's it going? I know he has held a couple of meetings with the players and the community and heard he is making big changes to the field snd starting new TB teams. I would love to get in on that team. I am anxoius to hear how everything is going and how everyone is adjusting to Monte up there. My DD won't be playing ball for a couple of weeks and that's the only way I have of keeping up with what is happening is when we're at the ball field. Anybody got any news on Coach Sherrill?

    Just a simple question.....

I think coach Sherill is argubly the best around. Having said that, is it truly fair TO THE GIRLS who are currently on travel teams and have been on travel teams for years to break them up and start over "just to be on the school team"? I have grown close to a few players and families from AC over the years from Seniors to current 7th graders. I am in no way bashing anyone and do not wish this thread to bash a wonderful coach and wonderful players, but I do not like the idea of losing players and dropping out of tournaments just because he is back. The Craze 14u folded last year largely because we had some of his players and he told them they couldn't play with us. Now, we have moved on and rebuilt and it seems to have happened again. A couple of our parents do not want to leave our team, but are afraid to be "black balled " by all of this if they do not.

    Just a thought, I come in piece.:thinking2:

It's starting to become popular to form summer HS leagues in baseball to allow players to stay together with their HS coach. I can imagine the same reasons would hold true in softball for doing this.

Thanks for the invite jarrettfan. I'm afraid I live too far away to just drop by, but I would be interested in relocating! LOL What do you think about the comment about the TB teams? Crazecoach does have a point. Will the girls be able to play on the school team if they don't quit their TB teams and join up with Sherrill? From what I know about Monte, I don't think he would be like that. But I can certainly understand how parents and players could be worried.

    To explain a little more...

I do understand why. As a wrestling coach also, I understand the importance of playing a sport year round as well as bonding with current and future teammates. ALL of the parents I have talked to as of last night seem to think it is an all or nothing deal with the AC situation. If that is true, there are many TB teams who will lose players. Flames(3) ,Troublemakers(3 or 4), Dirt Dobbers (1 or more), Storm( at least 1), and many more I'm sure, but this is an example. I do understand the logic behind not playing during school season because of injuries, etc. How many teams in each age will they have??? Who will be the coaches???? Lots of talent, lots of dad coaches, just wondering how many good girls will be subs instead of starters in TB and school?????

once again, in no way bashing just asking nicely....:surrender:

not much in favor for playing local ball unless you have all the talent locally which is usually not the case. i especially wouldn't like the idea that i, as a parent would have to please the high school coach by making my young dd play on his team so that she would have a "shot" at making the high school team when she gets there. this would also set the tone for a one position learning experience. a hs coach may have a position set for you and you won't get to learn another position or you're the ace and you get pitched to death because there won't be any parent dare go against their dd's future hs coach. where's the democracy in that situation? good luck with that anyway.:52:

I will address several issues real quick relating to the travel ball situation in order to clear the air before you make your own assumptions. Which seems to have happened already in your case.
I am only trying to organized the travel ball teams and players who want to stay close to home and use AC as their base. I know my daughters were fortunate enough to play for a great program in the Blaze and a coach in Chip Furr this past season, but for 80% of Alexander County players to be traveling 45 minutes away is tough. The biggest question I have faced in coming back has been, "Can we organized a travel ball program to alleviate the travel times for weekly practices?" If there are enough players who want to make a team from AC, then that is great. I am gearing our county for the future in the development in the age groups of the 8's, 10's and 12's. At Central Cabarrus, I had players playing on 10 different teams, but of those teams were located in close proximity to Concord. I could care less where they play and who they played for as long as they feel like there are being challenged and improving as a player.
You brought the term "Blackballed" into the thread concerning me. You do not know me very well to make that statement..... If you can play softball and play the right way, I could care less where you play travel ball, who you play for , or if you even play travel ball. I am simply doing exactly what the parents of the majority of the kids wanted, to stay closer to home. Best of luck with you travel team.
