Can anyone who has info about their local Legion situation please share what the compensation is for the coaches. Also, if there are fees for the players to participate, I would like to know that. Thanks.

We don't charge any players anything to play for our legion team. All monies is raised by local sponsorships, and then what we make at the games (gate and concessions). I'd rather not divulge exactly what we pay our coaches, as I view that personal, but I'd say it should depend upon a coach's experience and what your budget is. You may also consider calling around to other AD's, who privately may share what they pay just to give you an idea. I have found that teams differ (sometimes greatly) on what they pay coaches, it usually depends on how much $$$ your team can afford.

TJ, I think programs like Kannopolis & Lexington are exceptions to the rule of player fees. Most kids I've talked to say they had to at least pay for their uniform or more. But Lex fed the kids every game, bused them 1st class, & treated the boys royally.

Legion ball is the only level Ty ever played free baseball. I'll always appreciate the hard work Jim Lippard did soliciting funds & the generous support of donors. If they'll ever pick one of my tickets from the 50/50 bucket, they get the whole load!

    $

i think we have to charge our kids a very nominal fee just to pay for their hats, socks, and t-shirts (we don't wear traditional uniforms). the coaches are not paid. our ad does a great job of running our program on a shoe string budget and never recieves the credit he is due. i know he'll spend more time raising money, scheduling for our sr and 2 jr teams, then we do coaching. and he does all of his work for free as well.

Thanks for the replies. Would anyone here think that it is out of the ordinary that kids would have to pay $250.00 to play Legion ball?

    $250 is reasonable.

    Union County Legion

Union County just started Legion ball back last year. There was not a charge as the coach went out and raised most of the money himself. I can't say $250 is reasonable but I guess that would depend on what you are use to.

    $250 divided by 25 games = $10 per.

That's not bad in my book.

I think $250 is expensive as crap. You're talking $250 on top of a bat, cleats, glove, bag, etc. That's a lot of money. The only King Legion didn't charge at all. The Legion Post did everything for them. Surry used to be like that, but I'm not sure how it is anymore. I still don't think they pay much if anything.

As I stated earlier, we don't charge our players a dime either,,, all our money is raised before the season starts with sponsors, then we live on our gates and concessions. When I say $250 is reasonable, I'm comparing that to the fact that I know many other folks who play with other organizations and they pay much more than that.
