Anyone see this game? Was televised on ESPN this afternoon. SC had an impressive team. Looked very well-coached and disciplined. Several players college-bound, some to prominent D1 programs. I believe I heard the announcers say that this same district (SC) had won this same WS title for 4 of last 5 yr's? And hosted by Easley for several yr's? anyway........

Man, somebody has some pull or has one heck of a sales technique. With as many organizations that are in the absolute heart of postseason play, some organization I never heard of had ESPN showing their championship game? Nice.

Braves, Big League is under the umbrella of the official "Little League', you know the one out of Williamsport, Pa. It is the ages 16-18 Division.

and as mentioned there were several kids from the SC team headed to college programs. makes you wonder if or why they may not have been affiliated w/ Am. Legion, or showcase teams??

Big League is Part of the Little League organization, until about 10 years ago in the Winston-Salem area there were about 20 teams. (6-8 in WS, Surry Cty., KIng, Walnut Cove, Alamance Cty. Even Davie Cty. & a couple more that escapes me now.) It was a very competetive league, The team we had in Clemmons I know had to cut players each year (18 per Roster) We would play about 25 games in 30 days just like legion. We would have 3-5 players from West go to Mocksville for legion and the rest would play Big League. One thing that hurt BL is that little league changed the ages for Senior League play, it used to be 14 & 15, but about 10 years ago they added 16 to seniors and a 16 year old could choose Seniors or BL and most chose Seniors.

Baseballmom, Legion is not available everywhere and in some cases is not the chosen sponsor of baseball in all parts of the US. If you notice there is no Legion in Guilford cty, except the Hi-Toms, Guilford county has a very competetive league that is part of Babe Ruth, called Palimino.

And yes everyone is not clamoring to play showcase, It can become very expensive, not just the players but the parents who travel everywhere to watch the kids play. Some kids also just prefer to represent their communities & play ball.

    LL

Little League, Inc. apparently does a great job of marketing their product. As compared to the many other youth organizations, anything to do with "LL" gets TV exposure, I have noticed, be it the ages 11-12 baseball that we all know about , as well as this Big League division and I've seen LL girls softball on TV as well.

I know they really tout their volunteerism component, right down to their umps are not paid for calling games. LL seems to stay at the forefront.

LL has worked a deal with ESPN to televise every one of their division's World Championship games. Whether it be tape delayed or live, ESPN will cover all divisions of little leagues championship games, baseball and softball!
