The JC route is a better option if he dosen't sign before August 15th. I've heard a lot of rumors in the last several days and none are worth repeating. It's a great set of options for an 18 year old kid. Sign with the Giants and get a 2M+ bonus, go to JC and be drafted again next year, or go to UNC and get a great education and be drafted again in 3 years. I know that he will make the right decision and here's hoping we get to see him in the show. The kid has been blessed with a lot of talent and he has worked hard to refine it, I'm betting that he gets the deal done with the Giants before the
    15th.

Could be... I am not sure, just restating as accurately as possible the way I heard it... but you know how it is when you dont hear something firsthand from the "horses mouth"... maybe I should have said nothing...

As you can see from the signing today of Rick Porcello from the Tigers, who don't mind spending the money, sometimes a man might get picked by the wrong team. Wow the 27th pick gets 7.3 million dollars. I hate to see how that affects David Price and Company.

Come on man look who he has for an advisor (Boras)...he has to be worth it or they wouldn't meet his demands. He was the top high school player out there.

I agree to a point, Rick is a fine ball player and a great kid. I guess my question. Is any high school baseball player worth 7.3 million and a major league contract? My answer is no. But then again I hope for everyone's sake if it will help drive up the price then cash the check baby cash the check. My basic point is that some clubs are willing to spend a buck and others are always looking for a bargain, even in equal size markets. The Tigers are willing to spend the money to win. Go Tigers.

    You can not blame

anyone for getting as much as they can. Im happy for the kid and hope he has a great ml career. Is he worth it? We will have to wait and see. Personally I think dont anyone is worth that kind of money unless they can cure a disease. But if they are willing to pay it then for goodness sakes go get it. I still feel Madison will get it done before the deadline. I do believe that #10 in the entire draft will be hard to beat next year after one year at JUCO. He will have to have a great year and stay healthy. It is a big gamble because you just never know. Plus who knows what kind of class will come out next year. Im hoping that the kid can get a deal done that he and his family are happy with and he can get on with his career. The fact is Porcello got drafted by a team that is willing to pay. Great for him.

Like the stock market. One day you are up, one day down. Waiting a year is a risk. Anything can happen. Remember what Grandpa says "A bird in hand beats two in the bush".

It's easy for us to say it's a "no brainer". If any of us were in the position to turn down a multi milliom dollar deal for our teenage son, people would look at us as if we were crazy. But I know the Bumgarner's and I know this is driving them crazy. The stress must be incredibly high. I feel for what they are going through.

But it is a business...and they have professional businessman working it out.
