Shuping's a good coach. You'll probably see him land at 3A High Point Andrews. Andrews new AD just came from Grimsley. And unfortunately that new AD saw fit to run the current (now former) Andrews coach out of town. Derek Anderson was there two years and did a great job. Anderson was the former defensive coordinator at Ragsdale. Anderson is a great coach and a better person.

He is probably going to be back on the Ragsdale staff as an assistant for at least a few years. He has a son, a rising sophomore who is an incredible athlete - QB on the JV last year, saw some time on varsity as well and started in right field all season on a super talented Ragsdale baseball team.

Andrews will do well if they get Shuping as coach, but thier loss in Anderson is Ragsdale's gain. Ragsdale defense hasn't been the same the two years he was gone.

Shuping will become an assistant coach at Southwest Guilford. Derek Anderson's departure at Andrews was due to the elimination of funds for the program he taught. There are new head coaches at all 3 High Point high schools this year.

    This is weird.

Something about this story is shady or they were not able to get at the truth. Schools usually find away to keep somebody around if they want them bad enough. Maybe I am wrong, but it sounds like a curveball firing.

If Andrews administration had wanted to keep Anderson there is no doubt they would have found a teaching position for him. The hard part to comprehend is why they didn't want to keep him.

The story posted above testifies to the success he had there. What it doesn't relate however is what a first class individual Derek Anderson is. Or the fact that in addition to the success on the field and the success his players had in converting hard work into scholarships, Anderson had to come in and clean a program that had been rife with ineligble players. Anderson cleaned up the program, instilled discipline on the field and in the classroom AND was successful.

He is now teaching at Southwest Middle and back on the staff at Ragsdale as an assistant where he built one of the best defenses in the state several years ago. Ragsdale is thrilled to have him back. He'll hopefully be here the next three years at least while his son is here. Although he is definitely too capable to remain an assistant for long.

I imagine he'll get head coaching offers every year until he finally finds one that is a good fit.

    Plato

There has to be more to the story than the PLATO funds being cut. Every school uses that as a means to catch students up so they can graduate. You can basically take any Guilford County School course on the computer.

With the strains on administrations at each High School to graduate these kids and get them out the door, Plato allows them to do just that. The program is a joke actually and it's just used to justify getting students out of school with a diploma.

I hate it for this guy, seems he got the shaft.

Hey, been busy studying the other threads and just found this one. Wossa...you seem angry? While I agree Coach Anderson is a really great person, you have to know that the Principle is very strong about what has to be done to improve academics, she doesn't allow anything to influence her but academic results, I personally don't always agree with her decisions as an Andrews parent. Unfortunately positions have been lost at Andrews. While Coach Anderson did do a good job on the football field he had excellant assist coaches. He also inherited excellant athletes, another good fortune for him. So the only real thing I would like to point out to you other than agreeing with you that he's a great person..You need to know all the facts first before you jump and I believe that your post was before the new AD took the position which was officially July 1st. I am waiting to see what will happen, I like to give everyone a chance first...although we truely miss Coach "C" who was an Andrews fixture and really put in the hours for our kids...we need to give the new AD a chance...he lost many coaches before he walked in the door.
