I guess you missed my point. I think LL is the premier Youth REC League, hands down:
    ....Oldest
....Almost 3 times larger than any other
....Still the most affordable (nominal fee that is waived based on need)
....First appeared on TV in 1953
....Williamsport charges NO ADMISSION & never turns anyone away.
....At local games, there can be no gatetournaments (by national rules) the admission cannot exceed $1 for adults, with all kid free
....The food there is dirt cheap affordable (dollar hot dogs, etc).
....The umpires pay their own way & stand in line to do it.
....Kids uniforms at each local league must be identical.
....LL is the first youth league (I think) to impose pitch count rules.

    free umps?

is it really true that in the official "Little League" (local rec & all-star tournament trail) that the umps are all completely volunteers (no charges?)?

UK....agree 100%, I know I did miss your point and apologize.

LL is and will probably always be the premier "Youth Rec League". I still agree with aguyyouknow in that LL is "billed" and comes across to the casual fan that LL is the elite of Youth Baseball in the country.....

    TV

maybe other sanctions including travel need to "get on the ball" with lobbying for TV deals if that's a priority (I don't think it is).

No. Umps are paid in the regular league season, All Star district & regionals. But at Williamsport (nationals), all umps work for free & even pay 100% of their expenses (travel, food, lodging if they stay off campus w/ family).

I had a friend (Jim Henegar from Ky) who tried for years to get that 'privilege'. It finally happened about 15 years ago. You can only do it once. He worked the plate in the finals. Had a lousy strike zone (lol)!

There's so many travel teams now that talent dilution is becoming evident.

I don't know about all the leagues, but in Matthews the divisions were split since it is such a big LL organization, but I had played AAU with almost the whole team at one time or another and we knew each other really well before we were going through districts and state. I'd say most Little League All star teams play AAU ball together when they are 9 to 11 years of age.
