Ray Tanner once told me that Chuckie Canady hit the longest HR he ever saw at Doak Field.

    Played with both

I played with both of these guys and they were studs. Chuckie hammered balls routinely that landed on the soccer field beyond left field fence at Doak. He played for awhile in the Texas organization. Louie was drafted by Houston and made a few appearances in the bigs. Both played football. Never forget the homer that Louie hit against Uva. in Charlottesville that won the game 3-2.

    I did!...

....They were hands down the top of the class! As was both the Nixon boys, Otis and Darnell.

I played, well some, at ECU in the79-84 range and we had some awesome new kids each year. One who stands out most was a little sawed off 150 lb kid from Wilson named Robert Wells. Trust me here folks, Ol Robert had the perfect spin on the ball, 12 oclock/6oclock that he could wing it on a line from deep center to the plate and it never was off the ground more than 10 or 12 ft. Damndest thing I've ever seen.

    Josh Hamilton

I am basically a basketball person who's two boys fell in love with baseball. I can spout basketball names from the 70's on but baseball is harder, especially at the HS level. BUT.... I will NEVER forget seeing Josh Hamilton his senior year (my oldest's freshman year) first game of the season at Sanderson HS. There may have been more scouts in the seats than fans. I have not seen another one like him since.
