What would be considered a good home to 1st time for D1 or MLB prospects?

From home to first the average is 4.3 seconds for right handed hitters and 4.2seconds for left handed hitters. The clock start on times from home to first on the crack of the bat to when the foot hits first base. A fast runner at the major league level can run home to first in 4.0 seconds or below.

4.1 -4.0 for righties can get you there and UNDER 4.0 from the left side will do the same other wise you probably are scratched from the scouts list UNLESS you have major other tools! :)

Like you said you need ti be a power hitter preferably or at least traditionally...but even more than thaqt perhaps a very very competent defender behind the plate witg a "gun" for an arm! The more you can dip below 2.0 on the POP time the better your chances...

The home to first test should be used than the 60 yard dash. Reason #1, nobody runs a straight 60 yards on the base pads, theres a thing called taking a turn at first to get to second. The only time you run 60 yards straight is when your heading to the dugout, from the outfield at that. Reaon #2, its all about getting to first the quickest, if your quick to first, then theres a great chance your going to be quick to second.

Maybe when running the 60 they put a 90 degree turn in there halfway. It's a thought.

But running a straight 60 is pretty dumb IMO.

    60 yard time ??????

I've always thought that myself. Look at football and all you hear about is 40 yd. times. What ever got baseball looking at 60 yd times - does anyone know the logic behind it.

60 Yards = distance from home to third.
