Maybe because the kid will not be available in a year. My bet is the school is trying to lock him up. This does backfire. I think an announcement will be coming shortly about an ACC freshman that will move on. Not uncommon.

    Early verbals

Lets say the University of Stretchlon is a well known baseball power with alot to offer as far as school , location and baseball program. They decide to start going after 09's really hard in an attempt to lock up the "no brainers" early. You know the type of kids that there is no doubt they are going to be really good players. For example was there any doubt when Madison was a Jr in HS he was going to be a stud? So this University of Stretchlon starts coming into NC and throwing out the red carpet treatment to these young players. Come on down for an unofficial visit. Take in a football game. Come by the office. We all know that alot of kids who have never been recruited really are impressed with the first school that really shows interest in them. They get an offer and they are blown away with the idea of getting this behind them early and not having to go through the whole recruiting process. Now remember this is a high profile program that has had alot of success and is very impressive in facilities etc. So now the NC schools are seeing the young talent in the state grabbed right out from under their nose. And before they have really had a chance to get in on the recruiting of these guys. So these NC schools have to step up the time line as far as recruiting or they run the risk of not being in the picture for the best young players in their own state. This is exactly what has been going on and it is one reason you see the recruiting and the early verbals going on. In College BASEBALL you rarely I mean rarely see a kid not honor his verbal to a school. And you rarely see a school not honor in return. Why? The player wants to keep his word and he usually is happy with his decision. And the school does not want to run the risk of being known as a school that does not honor their word. If that happens they will have a very hard time in the future getting early verbals.

    Furl commits

Speaking of U of Stretch......a former Stretchlon Star verbally committed a few hours ago. Pitcher and hitter Zach Furl of Lee County HS gave Coach Roberts his word that he would be going to UNCG next fall. The Spartan uniform is going to look good on Zach and I can't wait for his first start. Zach is a very hard working competitive player and I predict great things for him during his college career. Congrats buddy.

Congratulations to Zack and his family. If there ever was a kid who you knew was going to play college baseball, it was Zack Furl. His dad, Eric has been instrumental in helping Zack attain his goal, so he has to be excited that it has happened.

    U of S signs a great one

Chancellor Sarmiento of the University of Stretch has landed the biggest stud for it's beisbol program with the signing of "MAY I say he will be a great one." Since it cannot be official until Nov 14th I can only disclose his initials (JM).........The Chancellor and Coach 27 were last seen walking into Mama's Pizzaria high fiveing each other.

    Gravely Commits

Another Star... Edmund Gravely has verbally committed to Newberry College in South Carolina. Edmund is a very dedicated player who truly loves the game of baseball. Move the fences back cause the baseballs will surely be jumping off his big bat. Congrats to the entire family on this special day.

I just read where Kyle Matrioni and Michael Tancini committed to UNC Pembroke.
Both play for On Deck, and are outstanding players

Kyle Mastrioni OF/P North Mecklenburg Solid defensive player w/ great speed- Excellent hitter to all fields

Michael Tancini C/OF JM Robinson A true baseball player; A hitting machine. He is a fun/exciting player to watch.

Congratulations to both of you and your families!
We on the North end of the county are very proud of you!
