I have no idea what is best. But I do like the fact that all our coaches work with all the kids, JV or V. And they usually practice at the same time on the same field. While we have our share of standing around, the time is usually spent with all the coaches teaching all the kids. As to what works, I'm not qualified to say.

What works for one coach doesnt work for all.. There are alot of variables involved here, including facilities, school schedules, time, coaches, coaching styles. You have to adapt your practices to meet the needs of the team based on these. What I did last year may not work the best with this years' team, so adjustments are constantly made. While there is no perfect practice plan, if you make your "best" a little better, then you have accomplished in a positive way.

    Steve they are the same

No changes in the signs. Why? We dont have anyone that can steal a base so no need for that sign. If we are going to bunt its only going to be a sac so who cares if they know its coming. Hit and run - We dont have anyone we would hit and run with because we miss too many pitches anyway. First and third - we always throw through so no need for a sign on that one. I guess that covers it.

The feeling is mutual I always look forward to playing the Rockets because their players are first class young men. The games are always competitive. And we always have a good time.

As far as practicing together: All of our fundemental drills of hitting fielding pitching outfield play catching etc are done as one group. We teach them all together. We split up for team stuff and then come back together to work on it. Such as bunt d they will bunt we will defend then switch etc. Its important to make sure that all the guys get alot of instruction. Sometimes the best teachers in your program for the younger guys are your seniors. This year our Sr catcher will do alot of instruction for the younger catchers with a coach looking on. The same can be said for other posistions. At the cage we try to pair up with a varsity player with a JV player. That way they can offer instruction while they are soft tossing t work etc. The coaches float around and offer advice and instruction.

Leadership and showing a great work ethic - its very important that your upperclassman show this to the younger guys everyday in practice. We encourage the older guys to mentor and encourage the younger players. One thing we do not stand for is anyone messing with anyone. That is not leadership its clownship and those clowns will be sent to the circus.

Im always looking for advice and new ways to improve. And transfers that can hit and throw gas!:13:

I want my transfer to Bill Gates company

Speaking of famous transfers: I just found out that the kid that showed brilliance in the backfield for Rocky Mount Friday night is a TRANSFER from Miami and he is only a freshman.

Does anyone want me to check if he is legal or not????????

    JV Teams

I agree with Steve and Kenny-the facilities and other variables can dictate what you can do at a particular practice. However,I have always practiced the JV and varsity together.I feel they need to hear the samethings for 4 yrs. so if we pull a JV kid up in the middle of the year,he knows what to do. We do several different practices. Most days we work in stations(Live, cage, defense, baserunning) with the varsity while the JV's are also in stations(cage,defense,B-R,and ,bunting). The next day we may have a 3 team live scrimmage with cage work for those not in the game.We also have avery productive "situations drill" so the day of the week, time of the year, etc. affects the type of practice we run. But,we do team d everyday(Bunt,1/3,cutoffs) and we work on offense daily. We try do work on baerunning daily because its such an overlooked skill-The bottom line is we feel its best to practice together. As for facilities, the last school I was at,we had no lights, but we patterned our workouts the same through cage work, etc. and practiced together and it worked fine.As for players,if the kid is ready to start as a 9th grader-we put him on Varsity,if not,we kep him down to work. This will be my 14th year in HS and I have had 5 Fr. on varsity and they all started and 2 went on to play d-1.I have competed against Coach evans and May for along time, and I will agree with both-they both run a first class program and are fun playing against-you know it will be a challenge-we just try to keep it close with both.

I changed the signs thinking you thought i didn't in order to confuse you. We always enjoy our yearly Feb. trip to snowy Roxboro, and our pitchers have grown to love climbing Mt. Evans to hurl!

Remember... if I didn't have a small hill out there the pitchers would be throwing up hill. We tried that one year... not a pleasant thought to have to do that again...

BTW.... I changed the signs from the signs I didnt change from the changed signs that were not changed... or were they??? Heck I cant keep up with my own signs that I changed?? or did I ever change them in the beginning??:19::60:
