    Your prayers are still needed

The community is going through a lot of emotions right now from dealing with the fact that the driver that hit them was doing 60 in a 35 and was a very drunk illegal immigrant to mourning and trying to do something positive in memory of Drew (scholarships, honoring his jersey number…). I know that some of Drew’s former teammates came back and met with the current Watauga team. I would like to hear what was said if any of them feel comfortable sharing. Also, here is the family blog and current news -http://newellreport.blogspot.com/.

I was one of the many that was at the meeting..... many of the players came back to talk to us about the loss and we came up with many ideas for how we could honor the newell family

about the meeting... there was a pretty big meeting... jv and varsity baseball players up here were called up to attend... players got released from football and basketball so they could be there... johnny greene who just got drafted was there along with seth breitenstein, scotty wilcox, chachi, chaz quinn, along with about 35 of the current players ... Drews number 12 will be retired the first home game of the season... a patch will be worn on all the watauga jerseys for this season with the number 12 on it... we are looking at embroidering 12 on the back of the hats also... we are hoping the first game will consist of drews family and the 04 team coming back for the retiring jersey ceremony... no one will run out to left field for pregame and we will run out to louisiana saturday night which was drews song... a moment of silence will be in honor of Drew and then the left fielder will run out. No one will ever be allowed to wear 12 again in memory of Drew. He was a great left fielder a great hustler and the true definition of a blue collar worker. He will be missed in watauga forever. R.I.P Drew... the returning players were very emotional while talking to us and very ready to take action and commemorate drew and help out anyway possible. The next season will definitely be in honor of drew and dedicated to him. Its been very emotional up here. p.s. none of this is official but this is what was picked out in the meeting as things that were wanted to act on and do. There was alot of other ideas that got thrown out and these are what were left. We have already started to work on them though so hopefully it will work out. Everyone come out to the first home game for the Newells in memory of Drew.

    Share the moment...

As tragic as this is for family, friends, etc. We must understand that it is not an isolated incident. Many communities are shaken daily by events like this. In honor of Drew's memory, step back from your daily hustle & bustle, take a good look at those around you, family, friends, etc. Show them you care, share the moment, don't take anyone or any moment for granted. Live today, tomorrow may never come.

    God Bless!

my heart and prayers go out to the newell family and also to his former teammates, program and coaches. having gone through something very similar last year, it is devastating to the whole community. whatever you guys do to honor Drew, it will be wonderful because everyone knows how you guys feel. it will definately make you put your priorities in order. God Bless and prayers, to the whole family and community, from the titan community.
