You are right. It is certainly not fair. But two wrongs (or three or four) don't make a right. The South Meck team, with or without the quarterback, should have been allowed to play. IMHO, you should never suspend an entire team. None of the honest kids should be punished. They can never get this year back to play and it may further discourage the players for the following year or years.

Yes, let me clarify. Some players are encouraged to move into the district to play. All I will say is that in my experience with my nephew (who is one of the better players on the team but I have a bias), he has been recruited by more than five Mecklenburg county schools or it has been strongly suggested that he move into the district to play for a certain coach. Independence is not one of those schools. Knotts knows he will get the kids every year with the tradition he has built. Most will go about it with full disclosure doing it the right way. A few will not and they should be banned from playing high school athletics. If it is deemed intentional that a player has misrepresented his/her eligibility status, I feel he/she should be suspended for one year from participating in HS sports. This includes cheerleaders, band members, etc. Why is WC's band the absolute best each and every year? I will tell you why. They have pride and tradition. They are expected to perform at a level that supercedes the norm. The competition is just as great. If the same situation happened with a band member or a cheerleader, should the entire squad be punished and not be allowed to perform? I guess that is my question: How far should each student be investigated and where does it stop? Thoughts???

The whole high school sports program has become a joke. Recruiting should not be happening in high school - what are we teaching these kids. I do not believe the Independence coach could win like he does if he did not have his team stacked with the best players. He is all about promoting himself - just how hard is it to coach a team with great players. The real challenge and reward for a coach should be to take a pretty good team and make them a great team. A coach should be teaching these kids that if they work as a team the wins will come (hopefully). I don't believe any ethics are taught at Indy - it all about self. What a joke of a team? I say boycott the Indy game on Saturday and this is nothing against New Bern because they deserve to win. We can't allow cheaters of the system to continue to win, it is a disgrace to all the high school football players that have done it the right way. I have heard from people down in Charlotte the CMS AD is connected to the Indy program either by supporter or fan which would explain a lot. GOOD ETHICs have been lost in Charlotte high school sports program.

Double standards should not apply, however they seem to be everywhere.

High school football recruiting has been going on in this state for at least the last half-century that I know of. A.L. Brown in Kannapolis would lure in high profile football players from all over the state with promises of mill jobs for their parents when Cannon Mills was in business. Winning is the name of the game in HS football just like it is in the NFL or NCAA. Winning requires skilled players. Sometimes enough skilled players do not "come up from the ranks" in a high school's district. When this happens, recruiting is necessary if the team is to continue winning. I see nothing wrong with this, especially when private or church schools do it legally and then some compete in public school leagues (i.e. Charlotte Catholic).

Yes it may go on everywhere, but Indy is the one in the news getting "investigated". They are the team sitting SEVEN players that were found to be inelegible. The problem is that they continue to play while others have forfeited. Kings Mountain had to forfeit their first win of the year over Hunter Huss. It was an attendence issue. The kid had been at another school and had missed to many days. KM was told they had to forfeit the game. Once KM had time to check it out, the kid had a medical hardship and had the DR notes to go along with it. He had also made up all the work that was required. KM was told they should forfeit "just to be on the safe side". That one game was the difference between playing South Point or Ragsdale in the first round. South Meck thinks that every thing is ok. The kid is living with grandparents, yet they are not given the great CMS investigation. They are told season over, no questions asked. Crest had to forfeit and entire season due to someone in the central office dropping the ball. Crest was using the eligibilty checklist they had used for years. The information was in the Crest student handbook. It was also in the Burns handbook and posted on the CCS website. When merger happened they changed the eligibilty checklist, but the information never got into the hands of the ones checking. The NCHSAA even told Crest that if they could get them the info, they could continue to play. Crest was told to let it go. (Of course we find out later that the former Super, and former pres. of the NCHSAA was trying to get a job in his home school system so he wanted it to go away.) The end result was the same for all three schools...forfeit.

I am 100% against teams having to forfeit at the highschool level. I saw first hand what happened at Crest to the kids that had nothing to do with it, but that is what we currently play under.

I say that you hit the schools and system with big time fines. Not hundred dollar fines, but fines with real teeth. You sit the ineleigible student and the school and system must pay for every game that the student dressed for. The kids get to continue to play and the money will hurt the school as much as anything.

The first kid kicked off Indys team is from Richmond County.I know his dad personally.Richmond County had a qb living with a coach a few years back.Yet they are the leading bigmouths on ncpreps wanting to throw stones.
