Tyler Hopkins and Eli Miller both started and played all year in the infield at McDowell last year. Tyler also played American Legion in Burke County where he was a starter at 3rd base for Post 21. Not bad for a freshman!!Both players showed signs of greatness defensively last year and with one year of varsity pitching under their belts both should hit well this year.

Freshmen have been on varsity alot over the last 10 years. Many Start on the NCISAA due to numbers at the schools they attend. Some schools at that level start 7th graders.
In NCHSAA kids are more mature and also July thru Oct birthdays that helps them ajust. They have been playing travel ball and are very mature as far as baseball is concerned. They are not wide eyed and full of fear. These kids want to rip from the first day.
At many schools the days are over where the upperclassman that plays three sports can make a team based on their athletic ability only.

All in it make for a better game to watch..

These Freshman and Soph's can really play..

They are not.. NCHSAA kids at time are a year older due to being held back in the earlier grades.. sorry for the confusion..

Dykota Speiss is definitely one of the best young hitters I have ever seen. A very tough out. Know the kid very well. He also continues to get better even though he missed almost 1 year for not 1 but 2 broken legs and ankles when he was 13 - 14. Played for 16U Dirtbags. Another one is Aaron Attaway down that way. Chris Fine awesome catcher also.

One freshman, Mikal Hill, was ranked as the 4th overall prospect at the impact showcase camp. There were also a number of other freshman who had stand out performances in a big time audition. Luke Dunlap, AJ James, and Grayson Atwood had noteable hitting performances.

i agree with westside coach on gus fesperman and corey dick . ive seen these kids play on the same AAU team. they dominate their age group , and by the time they are seniors scouts will be all over them.

These two players will have something to say once the new conferences come about.

Joey Savago spent four years with "The Grees" @ East Meck and Richie Shaffer is finally an upperclassman @ the ever improving field at PHS.
