Casting is when the hitters hands get away from his body as he starts the swing. This creates a longer swing-you want the hitter to get to the contact zone on a straight line w/o geting those hands away from body.

That pretty much sums it up

Glove. Picture a kids hands starting the swing process with his hands getting away from his body and coming around to get to the baseball. I creates holes in the swing and a long swing. Next time I am at one of our practices I will take some video of some of our hitters. We have got that one down to a T. :furious3:

casting can also be a description for incorrectly throwing a breaking pitch. In this case, it is when a pitcher gets his fingers on the side of a breaking ball and gets that "lazy" sideways spin that we commonly refer to as a little league curveball. Think of casting a rod with a sideways flicking motion. That is casting a breaking ball. Very easy for an advenced hitter to see and hit, as well as, the cause of arm problems associated with throwing the breaking ball.

Alot of times casting comes from the top hand taking over the swing. It usually gets to tight. Also the bottom hand not staying cocked will also let your top hand cast.If a player is casting he will usually come up out of his stance and the front shoulder will open so he can get the barrel over the plate. Just my thoughts.

Same thing in golf. Top hand takes over and you swing from the top. Bunch of pulls. Like casting when you go fishing. I'm pretty sure casting in baseball leads to a long, slow swing and a lot of weak ground balls. At least that is what happens when my son gets long and dis-connected, or casts.

Braves said it is the art of correctly placing a bait in an area where the fish are.

Dominant hand takes over the swing

in alot of cases. A rhb who is also right handed for instance. Top hand is his dominant hand and sometimes it can take over the swing. Pushing the bat out away from the body creating a long swing and a poor swing path. But also casting can mean that the batter is just taking a long path to the baseball by casting his hands away from the body and hooking around the baseball and not staying inside the ball on the swing. Casting , dropping the hands , opening the hips too early letting them drive the swing dragging the bat behind the hips and not letting the baseball get deep in the zone are common problems for hs hitters. Especially the outside pitch being hit out in front too early. Good topic of discussion guys.

    Yes thats it.

Got that one. If the fish are not there is it still casting? I will admit that I have casted a lot when fishing and caught nothing. NOTA. So if you are trying to fish and catch nothing is it still casting??(Think tree falls in the forest and no one is around.....)

Seriously though I really want to understand this casting thing with regards to hitting. The point of casting referring to pitching was very interesting.

Hey the fish got to be there even if you can cast. Careful here or we could get into some really interesting fishing stories.

Mine is I had never caught a Bass period. Give my son a rod and reel, plastic worm and let him cast away. Meanwhile I just watched my catfish rods do nothing. He yells out, "Dad I got one!" Son of gun if he hadn't reeled in a nice little 2 pounder. I did not even know at the time what he had caught. Ive since caught a few. The little guy even hooked a catfish a few days later.

So Ive heard on occasion that he casts when he swings. Not all the time but Ive heard it enough from various folks that I want to know what the heck it is.

Fishing stories are really cool though.

BTW Merry Christmas to all of you.

One other thing is in the cage if you are casting the balls hit to the opposite field will always be spinnning when they hit the floor.
