I hope you don't mind me asking what you guys consider good or bad sportsmanship? If you ever visit Watauga, you'll notice our kids just sit there. Administrators throw kids out for doing anything but cheer on the Pioneers. We had a kids thrown out of a volleyball match for yelling "Don't mess up" at an opposing player during a serve. That's probably why more students don't come to the games.

Personally, I think if it's insulting to an individual player or vulgar it crosses the line, as in the case of Buggy. Ashe has their students sit at one end of the gym. Vulgar/pornographic comments coming from them is not unusual. Administrators there do nothing. I guess what is tolerated in the gyms is probably tolerated in the halls, classrooms, and homes, too.

From what I've seen in the NW4A, most kids/fans seem pretty good natured and respectful. But then again, I've not been to every school.

    Let it snow!!

Maybe I should refine my questions. What do the schools you are fans of permit? Who's there to enforce standards?

I mentioned WHS' policy. We usually have an average of 2 administrators and 2-3 police officers may be present. Of course, rarely do they impose the same standards on visiting fans.:freak:

I was there for that game. Christen Holland, a reserve member of McDowell's 1991 state champion team complained that she didnt get any playing time (which was complete bull, because she was the sixth man and would have been either a starter the next season or continue to be the sixth man the following season) and subsequently transferred to Freedom. In any event, she was a marginal role player and such a whining baby that the MHS fans decided to treat her as such. Personally, I thought it was hilarious and fair treatment for a traitor on The Titan Tradition.

There were a few things that made that made that game unique.

First, "The Dummy Game" as it's better known as, was the largest attendance The Silver Dome had ever had with least 8,500 in attendance and standing room only. I remember that there was about 8 deep around the upper entrance catwalk, and at least 2-3 deep on the opposing catwalk. It was so crowded that the fire marshal was alerted and immediately ordered that no more persons can enter the building cause it was well past capacity.

Second, the game was called very loosely and on a few occasions could have easily led to a fight, or in this case - a riot. It was so physical and intense the scoring was very low and Freedom won by two, 44-42. Both coaches, if Im not mistaken, were whistled for technicals and Freedom coach Marsha Crump was very close to getting kicked out.

Third, The irony. The person that wound up being hazed and ridiculed - wound up scoring the winning basket.

Hanging a dummy in effiagy and chanting GPA to a player who isnt the smartest kid in the classroom are two different things. One was done in protest, the other in complete studpidity.

Well gee golly...What did you want to hear?? McDowell students & fans are very passionate, but I believe they know the difference between being creativity and passion, and pure ignorance.

IN other words....Dude, let it go...

This was not the only incident this year with TCR to the Titan Fans, earlier in the year when they came to play at the Titan Dome one of their varsity cheerleaders apparently gave a preview as to the type of students now walk the halls of TCR. While doing a tumbling series she landed in front of the student section and proceeded to flip them off.. then to add to her lovely display of class the next time she did her tumbling pass she turned and said how's that BI**HES.... guess this was just a preview as to what the Titans got to look forward to. Not sure where Principal Rob Weinkle was during either of these two games but let's hope he takes some kind of action for the lack of respect from his students.
Nobody is saying that cheering on your team is bad heck school spirit is a good thing and we all know the players feed off the crowd but an out right verbal attack against any student athlete is wrong.

Not that it matters and I know Im being completely anal here about this....But McDowell's gym will always and forever be known as...

    The Silver Dome

Its the house Mike Silver built...Calling it the Titan Dome just makes it sound rather generic.

    Present at BOTH TCR games...

My family and I were at both the home and away games against TCR this season and saw (and heard) all that was mentioned above. What a disgrace to think that it is okay to flip people off especially while wearing a school uniform! As far as the chant directed towards Buggy... again disgraceful! If I wasn't afraid of stooping to their level I would have stood up and screamed back at them NFL!!!!! Hopefully one day we will see the talent that Buggy has at a national level. What a great addition he has been to both our football and basketball programs! Just my 2 cents!

At least at the rest of the NW4A schools they let you say something. Watauga school spirit for hoops has died. Yelling airball at a kid every time they touch it after and air ball is unsportsmanlike (haha). Any comments about the other team are not permitted. And im talking about game comments like butterfingers, airball, brick, stuff like that. Not personal stuff.

At least the titan dome has atmosphere. Wataugas gym is nicknamed the morgue by its students. Because they have killed the crowd getting into it. Heck our students hardly even stand.
