    softball girls not playing bball

I know this post is suppost to be about scores but i wanted to reply on this subject.
AC girls have alot of talent playing bball now, but i read about the girls not playing bball to concentrate on softball, First off i can only comment about my daughter, My daughter played last year, they had a long season, she had a rotten time, it was'nt fun for her, not to mention, she's not that good at bball. never the less, she loves the girls and she supports them, she tries to come to all the home games. For her it wasn't the fact that she just didn't want to play and it wasn't that the sball coach wouldn't let her play, it was simply that she wanted to concentrate on her grades and vball and sball, if she is lucky enough to get a scholarship it will be in vball or sball not bball.
The AC girls do work their butts off and are getting better.
Simply this, when my daughter was young, their was no travel bball, just sball, that's what she grew to love, that's why for her she decided to do what she did. Also it's hard ( not impossible) to keep your grades and still be able to play 3 sports....Besides, Mcdowell will probably compete for a state title this year in bball, but WE may compete for a state title in sball.
GOOD LUCK LADY COUGARS!!!!!KEEP WORKING HARD!!!!!!

I think some people have brought up some good points on this topic. Alexander Central has always been a power in softball and if kids wanna focus solely on that, then that's okay in my book. I think the Lady Cougars has a good coach right now, the community just needs to be patient and give her a chance. Stability could go a long ways in making them a better program. As far as Wednesday night goes, I just think the Lady Cougars was the unfortunate one to come across a McDowell team that was coming off a three game losing streak. The first three minutes of play was an indiciator of how the Lady Titans wanted to come out and get back on track.

I was ready and willing to let this go yesterday, Interestedonlooker is obviously only interested in defending Coach Setzer and that's fine, that's what friends are for. She is a very nice person. But to say I posted to degrade the ACHS ladies; well as you said some things you can't walk away from and you my friend have no idea. I think the Lady Cougars, all of them, volleyball, basketball, soccer and softball are incredible young ladies. They, as a group, have a work ethic that any coach would love to have. The have excelled in Volleyball and Softball for several years now, the Soccer team started rebuilding last year with Coach Morgan and accomplished quite a bit. It would be interesting to see if you did take the softball team, let the softball coach have them for oh about a month and see what he could do in basketball and just to keep it fair...let Coach Miller or Morgan have a go at it. It takes motivation to get results and these girls give 100% to not only sports but everything they do. Their passion for sports and competitiveness keeps them going. So to respond to your post, I was not degrading the girls; I know these girls and know they want to win--doesn't matter what sport they're playing. I was simply defending them and their choice to leave. People would want you to believe they left for sball and even if it one or two cases that was the reason, how do you account for the girls that quit that don't play sball?

I think it's time to put an end to all the Alexander Central talk...this is a scores thread afterall. If you wanna talk about this go to Rant N Rave, there's plenty of room over there.

    East Burke 41
    South 38

A good win for East Burke against a good team. Another good defensive game for EB, and a struggle on offence. But, credit South with good defense also.

We let one slip away tonight. Had the lead and the ball with 40 seconds to go and made 3 big mistakes the biggest was getting a 5 second call when you still have your dribble alive and then trying to force a couple bad shots znd with 15 seconds left not fouling and just standing and letting the clock run out. Inexperienced but building. Got to give credit to EB they didn't give up at the end and came away with a win. Still it would have been good to got a road win this early in the season and maybe know they girls know they can play with the teams in the conference this year. Well played defensive game for both teams. EB had a good game plan it was obvious they had scouted SC

    Freedom-- 68
    Watauga--52

Ford had 28, two others with double figures, good shooting night for Freedom. Watauga much improved from last season, could pull a few upsets this season...

    2 things

1st thing: Since this thread is a "scores" thread, AC Reynolds beat ACHS tonight 57-42.

Freedom beat Watauga by about 10.

2nd thing: I know I am a little late getting to talk about the ACHS issues from above, but here is my two cents worth.

Dont say that the girls quit because they were told to or whatever. No one from ACHS told any player to not play a certain sport to get ready for the next sport. It is that players decision to not play basketball, maybe they just got tired of playing and wanted to rest. I know for a fact that no one coach has told a player to not play basketball to get ready for softball. Coach Sherrill is very supportive of any of his girls that play another sport and does not tell them to not play. As mentioned earlier, if some of the best players were told to not play basketball at ACHS, then Meg Chapman, Kirstin Morris, Amanda Jones, and Jordyn Setzer would not be playing basketball at all. These girls play vital roles for the softball team and they ARE playing basketball

    Just a thought

    :coolgleamA:

Well since the basketball team is soooooo bad because the softball players are not playing, I guess all the schools with bad softball teams should blame the basketball teams? This is just a stupid thread for people to complain.. you play with what you have and EVERY school has girls that could help a certain sport but chooses not to play so focus on what you have not instead of beating the bushes. I agree with nctiger that some things are just beat into the ground.
