SEASON IS 1 MONTH AWAY

It's January!!

I know it's cold so that means it's almost time to start playing college baseball games.

Blue Ridge Community College has it's 1st games starting Feb. 2nd with a 3 game series at Young Harris College.

With the NCAA schools starting later and High School not starting that early be sure to get out and support your local community colleges early and freeze with us parents. If you don't have a local team come to sunny, warm Hendersonville. We start playing at home on Feb. 11. Wrap up and come on out!

 

Looking forward to attending local college level baseball nicnat. I'ts hard to believe that competition begins in just one month, but according to my calender, it's time to start planning and break out the hand warmers!

 

I'm rather looking forward to it myself. Used to play H.S. ball in Gastonia and then coached some little league there after college. Now one of my good friends has a son up at UNC Asheville that will be a freshman and playing ball this year. I followed his progress through H.S. and hope I can get up to Asheville to take in a couple of games. Should be able to talk the little lady into taking a trip up there but will probably have to wait until it warms up a little.

 

anyone that sits through an entire 9 inning college baseball game in Feb deserves an award. I usually try to sneak in and catch an inning or two.

 

Does anyone know where Dave Ricker is playing this spring? Is he still at umain or could he be playing near Asheville?

They have him listed as a right handed pitcher. He has pitched with both hands for his whole career. As for as I know he still does. I have seen him throw a few innings left handed and then pitch the rest of the game right handed. I have seen him pitch from little league through HS.

 

My son mentioned Dave Ricker to me several times this fall, primarily about him throwing from each side but he did say that Dave had shown pretty good velocity the times he had seen him. It may be difficult for him to break into the rotation this year with Srs. DeRatt, Buchanan, and Baughn back plus Sos. Bogaert and Schumer but he does give one thing that UNCA doesn’t have a lot of and that is LHP.

UPDATE 1/11/08: I heard from my son that Dave may have injured his ACL toward the end of the fall but he wasn't sure of the extent of the injury. Hated to hear that.

 

I've got a friend who's son will be playing his first college season as a freshman at UNCW. I met this kid when he was a boy and watched him through high school. I will be going to games with his dad and am looking forward to seeing this young man live out his dream of playing college ball. I've got a son that will be playing his first year of high school ball this year and can't imagine how excited my friend will be the first time he sees his son run onto the field in his first college game.
