It is hard to have two girls sports back to back like softball and basketball and have both be successful. Not impossible but hard. At SC most of our better athltic girls are choosing basketball as their primary sport right now. nothing wrong with that. It is natural that the girls will many time choose the sport that is more succesful our basketball program is a well established and on the rise while our softball program is going in the opposite direction. Sometime things change a few years back all the good athletes wanted to play softball now they don't. Same at Freedom they used to never get any good players for softball now they get a lot and are winning. Most of Mcdowells good athletes choose basketball. It is not just AC it happens at all schools. Even look at our boys. Many choose to play baseball and nothing else but look at our baseball program one of the best in the state but football and basketball struggle

Reynolds played a good game tonight, and I give them credit for that. But, this loss isn't on the EB girls, it is on the EB coach. He didn't play to win, he played to make people happy.
IMO, South is better than Reynolds, EB just played to win in that game. Like I stated it is just my opinion.
Congrats to Reynolds they played good enough to get the win and that's what counts in the end.

My comments on Watauga this week.

Lost to Freedom 68-52 and beat Wilkes Central 60-54

Friday- Played well till the 5:50 mark of the 2nd quarter. Held Ali scoreless and was within five most of the time. After the 5:50 mark Ali got her first score of the game and WHS did not score the rest of the quarter. Bad situation. The difference in this game was not Ali because Ali is going to be Ali every night., the difference was Chelsea Conelly. She was more physical than our guards on both ends of the floor. Freedom is good. Coach Fox does a great job running sets specifically for Ali and also helping her feed the ball when the defense collapses. Watauga could not get anything going in their man offense. However they never quit and got it to 8 in the fourth after it being up at 16. With a couple of breaks this could have been a WHS win. They played 3 quarters good and had one bad one. If they could put together 4 quarters watchout.

Saturday-Held WCHS without a field goal until the 3:30 mark of the 2nd Q. Led 28-13 at the break which is to little when WCHS only scores 1 first half FG. Held on after a late surge by WCHS.

This week WHS is hosting McDowell and at AC Reynolds. Tough week for the Pioneers. Need to bring their A+ games both nights but upsets can and will happen. WHS is 7-6 on the year, 3 wins more than last already.

    Predictions
WHS stays with McDowell for a quarter and a half. Falls 73-55

WHS upsets ACR again in Fairview 64-60

    Week 6 Scores

At the half: McDowell 31 WHS 26

WHS led a couple of times early. McDowell has been up by about 12 before WHS cut the lead to 5. Great game so far.

    Watauga 49
    McDowell 65

I believe that's the correct score. Watauga cut the lead to 41-38 with 3 min to go in the 3rd. McDowell responded with a 7-0 run. Good effort by the Pioneers tonight.

    WHS-McDowell

Good game until the 4th, when WHS went cold from the field. If the Pioneers could cut down on the fouls and play four consistent quarters, they could cause some trouble for teams. Washington shot more fouls than WHS as a team. Too much grabbing and fouling on WHS' part.

Better team work for EB on offence, but not a good defensive night.

After an initial look through the stats, Washington attempted 21 free throws tonight. I'm thinking she hit about 16 of them. She finished with 32 points and 11 boards. 32 is a season high and her first 30-plus game of the season.

My compliments go out to Watauga tonight, they played pretty darn good if not for those late turnovers. Also compliments to Freedom on their win tonight against AC Reynolds. McDowell might have enough weapons to seperate theirselves from the others in conference but spots 2-5 is going to be a battle this season.
