Fiske's Guide to College's lists two NC schools in its public university listing

The Fiske Guide to Colleges gives you what no other guide does - a list of colleges and universities that qualify as BEST BUYS based on the quality of the academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.
In the face of today's skyrocketing tuition rates, students and families in all economic circumstances are looking for ways to get the best value for their educational dollar.

    PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS
    • University of Aberdeen (Great Britain)
    • University of Arizona
    • University of British Columbia (Canada)
    • University of Colorado
    • Evergreen State
    • University of Florida
    • Georgia Institute of Technology
    • University of Iowa
    • Iowa State University
    • McGill University (Canada)

    • University of North Carolina at Asheville
    • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
    • University of St. Andrews (Great Britain)
    • SUNY-Binghamton

Thought I would add a little more since the rankings of colleges had been brought up.

Happened to get a copy of Princeton Review's latest review of colleges in the US. The Princeton Review rates each school on a continuum for purposes of comparing all colleges within the 2006-2007 academic year only. They were based on Admissions Selectivity Rating, Fire Safety Rating, Quality of Life Rating, Academic Rating, Financial Aid Rating, Professors Interesting Rating, Professors Accessible Rating.

Princeton Review's 2008 America's Best Value Public Colleges
UNC-Asheville made their Top 10 list. Appalachian State, East Carolina, NC State, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Pembroke & UNC-Wilmington also made the overall list.

    Princeton Review's 2008 America's Best 366 Colleges (Public & Private)
NC State, UNC-Asheville, UNC-Chapel Hill, and UNC-Greensboro all made the list although none made the Top 10.

From this, Fiske, & Klipingers you can see that North Carolina is indeed blessed with the ability to get a quality education at a reasonable price. Easy to see why so many ball players from out of state want to come here to play. There were also a fair number of NC private schools on the list.

    I dont know why

I dont know why i read thru this entire thread, but I enjoyed listening in my head to y'all talking about UNC.. Bottom Line: UNC recruits and signs too many players. It's great for the program but not fair to the kids. case in point, mcnichol is a solid ballplayer...he pinch ran at UNC until casavini took his place. now he's not playing at all. atleast he'll get a good education and a degree. how many of thesse UNC signees actually graduate? not sure the answer to that one.. my guess is its not high..heck Wake's percentage is rediculously low too... how does Wake Forest Compete? Some how it does. Ya READY? I pick Wake Forest to whip UNC this year!! Bring it on baby..

The new NCAA rules put in place this semester will take care of a lot of this.

The baseball graduation rate is actually quite high at UNC. Last year, they had the highest APR of all of the top 25 programs and were the only major program in the country to receive a commendation from the NCAA.

It's also worth noting that the player you singled out is one of the roster's few true walk-ons. He tried out in the open tryout a couple of years ago and was offered an opportunity to play; having been told at the outset that he'd likely only see spot duty as a pinch runner because of his speed. There's no question that he's talented enough to play in any number of other programs; but, he'd chosen to attend UNC and feels fortunate to be on the team there, as well.

I can tell you from extensive first-hand experience that the UNC coaching staff goes out of its way to communicate truthfully to recruited players and live up to the expectations they create once the player is there. If you want to single out a program for creating overblown expectations among its recruited players, I suggest you find a different one than UNC's.

Mike Cavasinni will miss the 08 season after having ACL surgery this week.
He will redshirt, giving him two more years of eligibility.
This really reduces UNC's depth as far as experienced players, but creates an opening for another LH hitting of, Ben Bunting.
