What is most important? Development? Exposure? Some players are lucky to have good High School Coaches. What happens to the ones who don't?

Personally, I think the importance of development on most showcase teams is omitted. Yes, you will have a practice here and there, but the point I am trying to make is college's today have gotten away from developing players. Because of the pressure to win, these coaches are looking for polished products. They do not have the time or staff to take an average player and make him great in 4 years. They want a guy that can step in his first or second year. If you are not getting the work you need at your High School, Legion, etc, your development will plateau. There is always room to get better and at this point in time the window is smaller for the even above average player. There may be a few programs that meet the development/ exposure criteria. The one I am most familiar with is On Deck. The program is not for everybody, but for the player that is ready to buckle down and get the most out of their ability, that is the place. You can't argue with 100% success rate getting players in to college that graduated the program, and over 100 players signed since 2002.

I would like to hear what you guys think about the development of today's high school players.

That's a great topic to discuss. On Deck has never considered themselves as a Showcase program. Since its inception, they have always highlighted their mission as a "Development Academy". It's a year long program that doesn't make their priority wins/losses.

One of the reasons it has been successful is when scouts see their players in the beginning of the summer and see them again in the fall, most of their players have improved exponentially.

Showcase baseball has never been about development. They are not looking to develop their players. That's not to say that some programs don't do this. SC Panthers have a continued workout program with area coaches and CBC instructors that aid in their players development, but the concept of showcasing does not lend itself to development. You better have many skills already developed or you don't need to be showcasing.

There are so many different routes to take to be successful in putting oneself in front of scouts.....this weekend at Lenoir Rhyne is one of those.

    Is Showcase really Showcase always?

Some Showcase teams are made up of disgruntled dads and parents that are unhappy with a coach or cannot make another showcase team. You can tell by looking at the roster. If the roster has 5 or 6 kids from the same town or school, that usually indicates such. Also, when the coaches have no experience other than coachinging their kid's team that usually indicates such. So be careful and investigate a team thoroughly before you try out as you may be disappointed in playing on the team. There are more try outs for teams than ever and I think you are going to see less talent at these showcase events.

My post above was what do you like about showcase events? Why did it drift away to the negative.

Wait til the season begins. It's always the most trying part of running TBR each year. I'm glad that you have "volunteered" as a moderator:freak:
