If I was starting a team, when healthy, I would take your kid any day over some of the flame throwers!! Use to love to watch him pitch when he played with the Cubs! Tell Mr. Finley his man from Wilson said hello!

Wondering if the work, that these athletes are doing for rehab after TJ surgery in the weight/conditioning room, applied proactively before there ever is evidence of arm trouble or even as a player is going to start making a commitment to be a pitcher, if we would see a decrease of TJS needed, at least as teens.

The freighting thing that I have been hearing, is that young pitchers are looking at TJS as a way to increase velocity so it not that big a deal if I blow out my arm.

This almost needs to fall on the parents to make sure this type of preparation is done because most “young age” (for a lack of a better term) coaches do not have the time to schedule conditioning or more likely are not trained or aware of what needs to be done. Most travel/showcase teams are the same way. They may have knowledgeable people but as a rule, the kids play a lot, but practice little. The high school coaches have the opportunity, and I know the better ones are insistent, but without question that does not mean all coaches are, especially if the coach is involved in another fall and/or winter sport. And the biggest problem with the coaches at any level and maybe the parent too, is the urge to win especially as the stakes increase the further into the season or tournament.

No matter how well a recovery is after surgery, if a surgery can be first avoided, it is best. For it will always be more fun playing and/or pitching less innings each year than watch while you rehab.

No question about that. It is not a picnic to have the surgery and the rehabbing can be grueling. Believe me, I am the last person to encourage to take this route if it can be avoided.

My only purpose of this thread, and I thought I was very clear, is to provide some positive information to those that already are going through the rehabbing. I know if we had someone to discuss this with throughout the process, it would have helped.
