The Good Citizens Foundation, has developed the Gloves for Peace Program. My son has recently accepted the position of North Carolina Assistant Director of International Support for the Gloves for Peace Progam of the Good Citizens Foundation. He hopes to grow this program statewide. Being only 17 he has asked me for my help in getting the word out.

The Good Citizens Foundation, has developed the Gloves for Peace Program with the sole purpose of sharing equipment with communities around the world who want to play but do not have the resources to do so.

They have designed a system of collecting used baseball equipment, funds for shipping, and contacts that will place these gifts in the appropriate hands of children and young adults who cherish the opportunity to play.
Today, the Country of Moldova is asking for our help. This country is one of the poorest country in Europe. They have no real baseball fields, limited equipment, outdated uniforms…however, they have heart, passion, and respect for the game we play.

He is asking you and this baseball group for your support. He is starting his frist collection of used equipment. This can be gloves (old or new), catcher gear, bats (wood or metal), old uniforms, cleats, base pads, helments or any other type equipment.
The joy and satisfaction associated with this international sharing is unbelievable and yet so amazing. Just PM me and I will arrange for collection. I will be looking forward to your response and your interest.
Remember, your donations are tax deductible.

Another great cause. Please share with your son, Plate Dad, the enormous respect that I have for him in spearheading this drive. It says a lot about his character

Wonderful idea and kudos for your son for getting involved.

Just a thought...have your son work with his high school coach to send a letter/e-mail explaining the program to the other coaches in your conference. When you visit at their schools, maybe they could have a 'collection' night that has been promoted and be a part of the program too. It would be a great program for everyone in the conference to be involved in. You might not get everyone to participate, but for those that do, I am sure the results would be great!

A couple of years ago my son went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with Aldersgate Methodist in Shelby. Coach Rusty Stroupe at Gardner-Webb invited my son to participate. As part of the trip my son. along with the other folks on the mission team, collected baseball gloves. There goal was 1,000 gloves. I actually don't remember how many they collected and shipped over prior to the trip but it seems like they were very close. We sent out an appeal at our church and the folks really came forward with gloves. Another spot he found gloves was at the Rec Dept-lots of kids leave gloves and never come back to claim them. Once they got to the Dominican Republic they actually taught baseball skills to the boys. Baseball is a means for these young kids to come to America. I still get tears in my eyes when I look at the picture of my son giving his prized old glove to a young man-the young man had tears in his eyes. All of the pictures are so meanful. I have to say that trip changed my son forever. Good luck to your son...what a wonderful young man he must be.
