I Feel A COLD Coming On - This Will Be Fantastic

Yep. I'm probably going to have to "call in sick" those days. Folks if you are anywhere near Charlotte get to this tournament. Mr. Jack Sink is a legend in Charlotte baseball. I only had the privilege of meeting him once but let me tell you he's the man! If I'm not mistaken, he's Brick Smith's Father-In-Law and Logan Smith's (UNCG) Grandpa.

By the way, Charlotte is fortunate to have 4 very solid private schools to go along with the mega-competitive public schools like Providence, Kell, Butler, South Meck, Indy, Weddington, North Meck, Myers Park, East Meck and so on.

    The Private Schools are:

    1. Charlotte Christian - Coach Simmons (played at Liberty Univ.) has 7 or 8 Private School State Championships in a row. Daniel Bard, Reid Fronk, Chris Carrera and others have come out of Christian.

    2. Charlotte Country Day - Coached by Mike Hennessey. A outstanding coach (and gentleman) that gave Charlotte Christian a bigtime run for their money last season. I think they beat them twice!

    3. Providence Day - Coached by Jim Cerbie (former player at St. Leo College). He is assisted by Brick Smith who was one of the finest players ever to come out of Charlotte. Good instuction abounds at this school as well! Competitive ball club that will compete very well in the Jack Sink.

    4. Charlotte Latin - Under new coach Sammy Seranno. Serrano was recruited away from UNC Greensboro where he was an assistant. Serrano played at Stetson and played pro ball too. It's only his first season but his competition knows full well that Latin will have to be "reckoned with" now!

I realize this board spends more time on the public schools in Charlotte but if you didn't know it, now you have an idea of how strong our 4 private schools are.

Everyone is excited to see Providence, Kell, Myers Park and South Meck square off with these private schools.

ALL THE KIDS at these 8 schools (ALL) come from South Charlotte!

Can you say South Charlotte Baseball?

Many consider SOUTH CHARLOTTE BASEBALL the #1 hotbed for High School Baseball in the Carolinas!

This is shaping up to be one of the best Jack Sink Tournaments. What makes this so attractive is the Private schools will play with a chip on their shoulder. They believe they do not get the respect they deserve....and they will be out to prove otherwise.

I know why they can't but it sure would be more meaningful if they had a championship game.

    WOOD WOOD WOOD WOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a dream. One day wood will replace metal in the hands of all baseball players. And the metal bat will only be a distant memory. The sawed off homerun will only be a nightmare that current day pitchers will have to live with. And the hooked around outside fastball at the knees line drive in the gap will now be what it was meant to be. A pile of splinters and a weak ground ball for a 6-3 put out. Oh, I have a dream!

And all the hitting records created in the last 15 years will stand forever. Asterisks anyone?

    Of course

If wood were to ever come back I would be for two sets of records. Those achieved with metal and those achieved with wood. Can you imagine how good a guy like Bumgardner would have been in hs if the batters he was facing had wood bats in their hands? All you have to do is look at the performances of guys like Patrick Johnson for instance last year. He goes down to East Cobb and faces a team loaded with D-1 recruits and throws a complete game 7 inning no hitter. Struck out around 11 and not one ball was hit out of the infield. I know these guys were real good during the hs season facing metal bats. But their numbers against the same batters using wood would have been way better.

Look at the amount of hr's hit every year in hs. Now go down to East Cobb or Jupiter and see how many balls are hit out with guys using wood. The game is so much better when played with wood. Hitters get away with so many cheap hits and routine pop ups end up being home runs with metal. I know I am beating a dead horse here but its just the way it is. I wonder how many balls would have been sailing over the fence at LR this weekend if those guys were taking that bp with metal? Alot more than got hit out with wood I can tell you that. Its not fair to the pitchers. They make a great pitch and get rewarded with a basehit or a homerun. And it gives hitters a false sense of reality as well. They get rewarded for a bad swing and a poor aproach at the plate. Get rid of them. They cheapen the game.
