    Catholic vs. Providence Day

    Catholic 5; PD 4

2 very young teams with lots of Jr's/soph's on field tonight. I think PD had one senior in line up at DH only, and Catholic may have had 2. Catholic starts a frosh at short. Steven Hummel started for PD on mound going 3 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 BB. Christian Rautenstrauch finished on mound for PD with 4 hits, 2 runs, 2 K's. Danny Vilet went all 7 for Catholic with 5 hits, 4 runs (a bomb by Chase Carbone - soph - over PD's batting cages in CF), 8 K's, 4 BB's. That kid throws hard. PD swings a good bat. Umps squeezed all the picthers a little so the walks for both team were probably inflated. PD made too many errors in the field .

    Myers Park 7
    Hopewell 5

    WP: Nate Cudney 7IP, 5R (1ER), 5H, 7K

Myers Park started the game with sloppy infield play and spotted Hopewell a 5 - 0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning. MP then erupted for 7 runs on 7 hits - key hits in the inning were a triple by Hamlin Wade, a bunt single by Austin Bradden, double by Brian Holberton, and a double by Chris Overman. Cudney then pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning to end the game. MP is now 3 - 0 on the season.

I know it's early but where do you see MP stacking up in the SW4A this year?

    Millbrook 4 Knightdale 1

    Millbrook 4, Knightdale 1
    KNI0001000--151
    MBK1002010--451
    W--Harris. L--Sexton
    Leading hitters: KNI--Green 2-3; MBK-- Harris 2-3.

This game between 2 very fine baseball teams reinforced the statement "it's not how many hits you get, it's when you get them." Knightdale and Millbrook both had 5 hits - Millbrook's hits happened to be more timely and with runners in scoring position.

Taylor Sexton of Knightdale and Jake Harris of Millbrook - both lefties - attacked the hitters with two distinct styles. Harris relied more on his fastball (added a curve in the later innings) while Sexton relied on his changeup. Congratulations to both pitchers on a well-pitched game and to the players on both teams for the class they displayed throughout.

    Porter Ridge @ Independence

    Porter Ridge 14
    Independence 6

Inependence is very young and made alot of mistakes in the field...Porter Ridge hit the ball very well, and had a great outing by Junior pitcher Brent Clark. PR looked very solid defensively.

    Thursday

    Independence 1
    Porter Ridge 0

Pitcher's duel between Andre Frazier of PR, and Brian Chavis ? of Independence.
