Cliff Higgs, an umpire in the Raleigh area, died yesterday while preparing to umpire the Chapel Hill - Orange game. I don't know other details, maybe ohsbaseball can fill us in later on.

Please keep his family in our prayers as well as those who may have witnessed this yesterday. Makes you stop and think about the important things of life.

By the way, Cliff was a teacher at Bartlett Yancey High School in Caswell County.

Very sorry to hear about this. May his family be blessed with love and comfort from Cliff's friends.

How tragic. Thanks for letting us know so that we can be in prayer for all those who loved him and had to witness the tragedy. What a tough way to start the season.

I graduated from BY and the head baseball coach there is a good friend of my families so I'll definitely remember the BY family too.

    I was there

Stopped by to catch some of the game and happened to witness the event.

Hats off to OHS personnel who tried to make him as comfortable as possible and gathered information until EMT's arrived. Also to all emergency personnel who worked feverishly. Wasn't sure of the outcome as they put him in the ambulance, but I knew it wasn't promising.

Sorry to hear the news and prayers to all involved.

it's a sad day when we lose anyone that's a part of this game. I have always thought that the guys in blue were probably the biggest fans of baseball. They don't have an interest in who wins or loses, they just love the game for what it is.
May his family and friends find peace at this difficult time.

Cliff umpired a lot of our Jr. Legion games. He was a good guy and we'll miss him in Oxford this year.
