The Maiden Blue Devils(2-1) rolled into West Caldwell on a good night for baseball, needing to get back on the winning track. They did just that tonight at WC winning 8-4. The Devils got good pitching from B. Huffman and L. Pearson, giving up only 5 hits and striking out 8. At the plate, the Devils had 11 hits and were lead by Justin Sizemore 3-5, Matt Kelly 2-5 and several others with one hit apiece, including Ashton Leatherman's HR. The team looked and played a lot better than Monday night. Way to go BLUE DEVILS!!! :19: WC at the plate was lead by G. Hendricks 3-3.

    Newton-Conover vs Bunker Hill

At Bunker Hill, the Bears were winning 2-1 in the top of the 7th.....sorry my DD plays softball and we had to leave before it was over. It got really cold on the Hill around 9pm.

Chase Ervin was starting pitcher for BH
    # 4(lefty)- sorry don't know his name was for NC

    Saint (1-1, 1-0 CVAC) 2 Hickory (2-1, 0-1 CVAC) 0

    WP - Jason McEachern (1-0) - 7 IP, 0 Runs, 5 Hits, 12 K, 0 BB
    LP - Kurt Hammonds (1-1) - 6 2/3 IP, 2 Runs, 5 Hits, 7 K

    SSHS Leading Hitters
    Brian Litwin - 2-3 2 singles, 1 run
Andrew Benton - 2-3 2 singles, GW 2 RBI single with 2 out bottom 6

    HHS Leading Hitter
    Kurt Hammonds - 2-3 2 singles

This was a classic pitcher's duel from the get-go. Both starters were dominant throughout. McEachern got some defensive help and held up a little longer and Saint just ended up with hits in the big situation. Before the 6th Hammonds didn't allow a runner past first base (2 pickoffs).

Pretty much what you would expect from these 2 pitchers and these 2 programs.

Saint hosts Bunker Hill tonight at 7.

Ouch! Too way to start for the Tigers. How was the defense for both teams? Looks like lots of runs without many hits.

Enough errors and misplays by both teams to make every hit count. Also, and i think both teams would agree umpiring was lacking and questionable, Hibritens right fielder almost got tossed because he said something to his 2nd baseman ("matty" edwards) and the umpire thought he called him "fatty" ( like they say if the shoe fits wear it), stopped the game and called coach onto field.

    Saint (2-1, 2-0 CVAC) 11 Bunker Hill (3-2, 1-1 CVAC) 0 in 5 innings

    WP - Matt Rowe (1-0) - 5 IP, 0 Runs, 2 Hits, 11 K, 0 BB
    LP -Chase Patterson

    SSHS Leading Hitters
    Brian Litwin - 2- 2 singles, 2 runs
    Andrew Benton - 2-3 2 singles, 1 run, 1 RBI
    Bradley Canipe - 2-3 2 singles, 1 run, 2 RBI

    Bunker Hill Leading Hitter
    D. Hedrick and R. Keller each 1-2, 1 single a piece

Matt Rowe threw a gem on Thursday night. He was in control the whole way. The 2 hits were back-to-back 2 out singles with 2 out in the 2nd. He struck out 11 of the 17 batters he faced. The Indians hit the ball well throughout and were aided by a number of miscues by the bears. Bunker Hill is a very good team who simply had a bad night on the diamond.

Saint goes to Maiden Monday at 7.

    Newton at Maiden 10-9 3/6/08

Last night Maiden(2-2)(1-1) let one slip through their fingers, or should I said under their gloves and over their heads. In a game that was sloppy for both teams, NC got the win at Maiden 10-9 in 9 innings. Maiden got good pitching from Kelly..Pearson..Sizemore(12 so,4 bb 12 hits), but could not overcome the costly errors. At the plate Maiden had 11 hits and was lead by D.Shelton(2-5)..J.Sizemore(2-5)..M.Koenig(2-5). NC at the plate was lead by 5 players with 2 hits a piece.
